yeah I find them creepy too - it's the big mouth thing...

Squids don't despawn - the reason you can't keep more than 6 is probably because there is a limit on the number of squids you can have in the one area.

It affected the Mo Creatures mod because only a certain number of mobs can spawn in one chunk... so what was happening was squids would be hidden down deep somewhere, so no new animals would spawn - making people have problems trying to get the sharks to spawn, because the waters were filled with hidden squids, and the only way to get rid of them is to kill them. So Mo Creatures now has an options menu you can increase the spawn limit and turn off squids if you want.

Interesting. I guess the lack of squid despawning is a bug?

Hahaha

yeah, it's presumed that it's a bug... I believe DrZhark (mo creatures) let Mojang know about it, but I imagine it's not high priority.

My 10 squids turned into 8 and a half squids last I looked.

One was completely missing, and another had passed through one glass and one stone and was "swimming" in one stone block on the floor lol

I always thought that they would have to spawn in deeper water, like fish, but I have found (and promptly harvested) squid in 2 separate 1 wide, 1 deep water.
