Default Ragnarok Online

Testing this at the moment as it came free with the October 04 edition of PC User magazine, and has a free 30 day account.

Look for a review a bit later, as I'm just installing it now. Just be aware that this is my first foray into MMORPG.

Just a few impressions so far.

Japanese anime characters, and bad Japanese to English translations. Am actually enjoying it a bit, and a bonus was that the wife seemed interested in playing it.

Was a bit lost at first, with having never played an MMORPG before, but am quickly getting the hang of it. Have become an archer, so now I need to know where to find a bow.

Some of the mobs are quite easy to kill, but I just have to remember to attack when HP is maximum for my level.

Default Err ... how can anyone stand 2D games after 3D ?

I've been spoiled. After playing 3D games, RO was like ... eh why can't I look up at the sky ?

SWG was a revelation to me since I never played EQ. EQ2 gonna be something too I guess, too bad I can't afford to get a new graphic card for it. Bro getting all ready with his new amd 64 bit pc with all sorts of new fancy stuff, sigh.

Ok, after a few days of unintentional solid playing, I can honestly say that I enjoy the game, and may be hooked. Despite coming from an FPS background, the isometric view is refreshing, as is the need to not have to aim. It does get a bit frustrating with not understanding how the whole thing works, particularly with what mobs are more dangerous to you on different levels. I still can't understand why I'm "wicked". It must have something to do with killing the "cute" mobs as opposed to the zombies and bats.

There are some pretty wicked looking weapons in there, and it is impressive to see a high level mage take out a powerful mob with a rain of lightning bolts. The sound effects are pretty cool as well, although I have noticed that as an archer the "twang" sound comes as the bow is drawn back.

I don't know if this applies to any other MMORPG out there, but the player can get pets by taming the "cute" mobs. I have still to work out how this can be beneficial for someone. I have, however, figured out that as your level increases, the drops from the weaker mobs become fewer and fewer. I just need to find the right mobs that won't kill me so quickly.

Anyway, this is burning valuable game time, so cheers.

Ive been playing mmporgs for some time and had to try Ragnorak, especially after watching the anima. Its an excellent one if you haven't have a chance to check it out. For simple graphics the game is surprisingly addictive and the psyche interview to determine what job you are suited for blew me away. They decided I was a swordswoman, go figure. Sadly, after the newness left for me anyway it got kind of tedious with not much else to to but slay monsters. Still, worth a look since you can get the free trial.

Ok, the Oceana server is starting to charge with effect from 01 Dec. At $20 a month, I don't think I'll be playing after this date, so in the meanwhile, I'll be thrashing the guts out of it.
