Hey Toggers and guests, just a brief mention about my current game VAnguard. I am an ex-WoW addict and after many months away from online gaming, I got Vanguard with some trepidation. Trepidation for 2 main reasons. The first was related to spending time and money on a crap game and ultimately being disappointed. As I get older, I find it harder and harder to lose myself in a game. Not sure why that is, probably as I am increasingly cantankerous and sliding blissfully into Grumpy Old Man status.
The second reason was in some ways the exact opposite of the first. I was scared of another full blow addiction taking time away from leering at the opposite sex and leading me to massive weight gain with co-morbid alcoholism.
Well, I must say that my first fear did not come to fruition. I have really enjoyed playing Vanguard over the first month or so. Sure there have been some buggy moments, but not enough to complete wipe this game out for me. There has been more than enough content to keep me occupied when I hit a bugged quest. I think though, this has only happened to me 3 times.
The graphics have been very nice. Again, perhaps as I am an older gamer who was blown away by games from the 80's and who spent months immersed in text based MUDs, this has never really been a really important point for me. Gameplay, measured in my ability to get 'in' to the game, to reflect on it when I am not playing it, is to me the key, and graphics are just like the froth on a cappacino. Good froth is useless on bad coffee, just as good coffee will see you through a bad froth (lol, thats a silly metaphor but sod off, I am cantakerous and grumpy remember!). I have got into this game, and I reflect on it when not playing (hence this whimsical post).
As always, I love playing with my TOG mates. Each new game gives me the privilege to meet new people. Thats an awesome addition to gaming these days. I love being part of a helpful guild who I can talk crap to while being mashed by some crazy looking rock elemental or the like. I love being able to have a bit of a tipple and pretend I'm funny on guild chat - and then seeing the other really bad one liners come through! love it!
Overall, my dinner is now ready so I need to stop dribbling here...I have really enjoyed this game to date, and I am optimistic about its future. I am hoping that it continues to grow and develop allowing me a long love affair with its twists and turns and immersibility.
oooh, and about my second fear mentioned above, the one about addiction. Well, we will have to wait and see...I've got my red wine cracked ...so there is a sign.
If you wanna come have a look around in Vanguard, come say ullo to Theog, the wee little holy knight errant on Targonor, would love to see you.
