Perfect World

Hey all, not sure if this has been posted yet, but I didn't seem to find anything doing a search.

On mmorpg.com I came across this game called "Perfect World" and thought I'd check it out. I've only briefly looked at it so far and I'm liking what I see at the moment. I'm having fun without having a large grind so far, and from what I've read in forums that's one of the biggest things is a lack of grind like most other similar games.

One thing that was pretty cool I found was the ability to fly. One fo the starting races can fly from the start with their wings, although slowly at first. Otherwise it looks like there is a wide variety of flying devices characters can get later on as well as other mounts and such. Anyways, check out that forum post with features. Seems like it could be a really cool game!

In the 1st forum link you mention they're saying that an english server is going online sometime within the next month which should make it more accessible.

Yeah looks that way. Until then it's just a matter of copying a few files and you can play just fine. Translations are better than many similar games. While playing I've seen a number of English names mixed in with the Asian character names, so it would appear there's a fair amount of English speaking people checking it out.

I think the English version that doesnt blocxk IPs is coming out on the 28th. I've heard good things about this game.

So tried to play, was able to FINALLY able to get everything downloaded installed and the English patch working. Then the update (hint, when you are installing game, change the funky letters path to an English one or you won't be able to do the 1st update and will have to re-install).

When in game, it looks nice but there is just too much missing info, I couldn't see anything the NPCs said, etc. I'll just wait for the English version when it comes out.

Hmm strange... My client doesn't have any missing info or text. All the NPC text is in fairly good English with nothing missing. I wonder if you copied the files in that English download to the wrong directory or something. It replaces a bunch of current files and directories.

Installed the game yesterday with barely a problem and I have to admit that I've been pretty impressed so far. Runs quite smoothly even on my laptop and a dialup connection. The English translation has it's quirks but I can usually figure out what's going on. Graphically it's very pretty with smooth animations, your character has some great looking moves although I can't same for the mobs i've faced so far. Have to admit though that my experience with the game is limited as I'm only up to level 6 so far and I've only explored the region around Sword City. It's probably the most polished 'free' mmorpg I've seen to date. I'll certainly be be playing this for a while, hopefully I can post a bit of a review later.

Just a quick update, the game is currently up to patch 12 but the english patch only covers up to patch 11. It's still quite playable although the 12th patch has reverted some of the text to chinese but all the dialogue I've seen so far is still english.
When the official english client comes out it will be on the malaysian servers and will be available at Perfect World (MY) It was due out at the end of August but the official stance atm is "that it will be ready when it's ready" but people are speculating that it's not that far away. There's also talk of US and euro servers in the future but they could be as late as 2008. This game shows a lot of promise so when the english client becomes available i'd definitely recommend it, as it stands at the moment it can be a bit of a hassle to install and the person on the Perfect World Wiki & Community Info Site forums ladycentaur who put together the 11th english patch has withdrawn her links and support in that forum due to a flame war over the weekend. This was a shame as she was going out of her way to help people. Apparently the people involved have since been banned from the forum and the posts deleted. Anyway when the english client becomes available I'll post here again.
