Default Ultima Online: Return to Britannia, for free

Ultima Online is celebrating it`s 10th anniversary these days, and EAMythic has given old players a chance to meet their old characters for free.

"Former players in good standing will be able to log in and play Ultima Online using their former account names and passwords. This "free period" will last from September 25, 2 a.m. PST to until October 9, 2 a.m. PST."

You can read more about it here.

I'd seen word of that invitation for all former accounts to be given a free return trial. It was tempting, as I'll always remember my UO time fondly. I have gone back to Player created shards a few times but really it's hard to get that old spark back. Add to that there are just too many great MMOGs on the horizon that I won't be able to keep up the ones I am still active in now let alone resurrect old flames. So I think I'll end up passing. Always nice to hear UO is still out there though.

Yeah, it`s amazing its still here after 10 years - even with all those new and fancy MMOs coming out every year. I have played UO now for 5 years, always having at least 2 accounts open even when I try out the new ones. The grind in those other games gets me every time however, I can`t really understand why there are no other alternatives. Every MMO is similar to any other MMO out there, just the setting and background seems to change. So I try out the new ones for a time, and then I hurry back to UO

It's been a very long time since I had my account in UO.

I might try and see if I still exist but I dont hold my breath.

I played from 1st age to 3rd age.

I remember UO as it used to be. No Trammel. No Third Dawn. Terthon Keep was cool. Ice dungeon rocked. You could freely get your a$$ whipped by anyone. You never left town with more then you feared to loose. You could macro your skills. You didnt have to worry about some stupid scroll to blow out your 7x gm anything. Explode, ebolt hally combos FTW. There were just the same ugly houses, no log cabins, no sandstone huts. Castles sold for 2,000$ on ebay.

So unless UO returns to this time. I shall never go back. It would merely corrupt my memories of what a fine place it used to be. Not the dis-assimilated care bear land in which it now entails.

Loved UO, played it for almost 7 years but now I'm too hopelessly additcted to EQ2 to go back. I seem to remember for the majority of the time there was tram and fel?? In the end tho, all the little kiddies running around WBB screaming about trammy carebears etc drove me away from that game, even tho I could kill 80% of them in Fel

I played UO for about a month or two when it first came out so since then my email, address, credit card, phone number has changed so no free wlecome back for me. However I did pick up a 14-day trial through the Kingdom Reborn offer. You get access to everything except for the Mondain's Legacy content.

I've got a buddy and his wife who've been playing from the beginning so he's been showing me around all of the new stuff (and protecting my noob character on Felucia). The KR client certainly is nice and pretty but its VERY buggy. If you are going to try it make sure you have the 2D client installed as a backup.

I have always loved the UO universe so I may stay for good after the 14 days. Certainly helps when you know someone else who plays to pal around with.

Yes having a big brother helps in most RPG online games I feel.

Still mulling it over myself, rejoining for the free time.

EA cant put anything out that isnt riddled with bugs.

Yes, big brothers in mmorpgs are very, very nice. I used to work magery on various characters with friends, and explain the intricacies. I loved Felluca. But on Great lakes it was a ghost continent. Which was cool I guess, but I like interaction with people, be it good or bad.

I played on Great Lakes, had a couple of 7x Gm's. Also had a 7x Gm on Siege Perilous. The 1st Siege Perilous died too quick cause people were getting 5x gm's in like a day and half.
