Its been assimilated by morons. Why make a game and then say its not made for Trekkies? WTF? If they made a damn good quality STO game then the sheer amount of people who are trekkies could support that game easily. This is what happens when you have CEO's that have their head in their ass. Oh well someday its gonna get easier to make a game and some small company will make it right.

On a better note i have dedicated some time to finding free episodes of Star Trek to watch. From the first Star trek to Enterprise I have been able to find all kinds of places to watch for free. If you want some links PM me and Ill give you the links. I am not sure if you can download them,I usually just watch them and move on.

This rings sadly all too familiar for many a promising game company that needs to borrow money to build their IP, only to go bust in the end and need to sell off their assets/game to pay back their creditors, only to then disappear off the face of the earth and nigh return.
Then we, the consumers, are sometimes left with a foot in the arse and second rate service by the new game publishers who usually aren't in love with the new franchise as was the game creators - which more often than not, shows.

Sorry, but aren't you overreacting a bit based on just one screenshot? While I do not have any big hopes for Perpetual as a company, what this title will end up being is too early to tell, I think.

There is a good blog entry of a former Perpetual employee about the difficulties of making a Star Trek MMOG and the art director at Perpetual jumps in a response there, with a bit of damamge control response, I think.

Hi Sente, was your question directed to me?

If so, your probably right in saying I over-reacted my conclusion based on this article, which is sorely needing sources to official quotes.

I can only go by past events and wrote what I said when reading this link in full. Interested material in quotes.

Quote:
Pursuant to the Assignment, Perpetual transferred ownership of all of its rights in tangible and intangible assets (collectively, the “Assets”) to Assignee for liquidation. Assignee shall liquidate the Assets, wind down Perpetual, and distribute the net liquidation proceeds to creditors of Perpetual.
My final impressions based off this update possibly explains the need for easier +/= cheaper investments for (want for a better word) "dumbed down" graphics. This was what in the end sounded off the warning bells and the above post.

I do hope I am wrong tho

It might have been directed towards me and if it was it's understandable.
I have been playing MMOs and beta testing long enough where I am confident I can recognize a known pattern and where it's going.

Let me say, with the money troubles they are having, they are not going to be changing things much from that SS. Only cause big changes cost more money and it does not sound like they have that kind of money. Plus big changes it cost more time=more money. Bottom line, once they release an original concept, it wont change much from there unless they can afford to make those changes and in this case they spent time and money getting to what that SS has become. The company has become a risk based on the bad press too.

Imho, it looks like the Borg wouldn't touch this... they're on the quest for perfection. (After all, they wouldn't assimilate the Kazon.) Instead, this seems like a Ferengi plot to just acquire more and more gold-plated latinum -- by dumbing down the game so casual gamers will play it, not just the hard core Trekkies.

It's always about the latinum... SW: Galaxies anyone?

It was more of a general comment and not directed at any particular person. I cannot say I have much confidence in Perpetual as a company to pull it off in their current state, but that is more management issues. That is still quite essential though.
Whether the developers can do a game that is good enough to be successful assuming the company get its act together, that is another matter and too early to tell, IMHO.

I have no hope for PE anymore or any of the games it was working on. I have yet to play a Korean based game that I enjoyed. I was strongly involved in GnH when it first started beta and saw the light a long time ago - now to hear theis about Star Trek - oh well - will inhabit the AOC forums and Warhammer now.

Moving this thread to the main public MMORPG forum.

The Gods & Heroes forum here will be closed soon.

Again, thank you to all that I got to know on the G&H forums as well as in beta.

From G4TV.com:

Quote:
Star Trek Online, the massively-multiplayer online RPG that takes place in the final frontier of the popular sci-fi universe, is boldly going where it has never gone before: a new studio. The game has been handed over to an unnamed developer after the original creators, P2 Entertainment, bowed out of the project.

One caveat of the transfer is that P2 did not ship over the game code to the new developer, which means the project could end up facing delays as the new studio will be required to re-code the entire project. In the meantime, P2 will swing their dev focus to games with mass market appeal and their middleware, the Perpetual Platform.

Live long and prosper.

Possibly good news but it depends on the 'unnamed developer'
