Default It gets sad when...

You base your selection on what MMO to play, not on what you find enjoyable, but on what MMO bores/irates you the least.

For me that is EQ2. WoW, LotRO, CoH/V at the moment just bore me to tears. Have been trying the Pirates of the Burning Seas beta, but I have deep reservations about the limited melee combat, slow pace of ship combat and the potential for player greifing/ganking on the high seas let alone auction house manipulation. So all things considered, I guess I'm stuck with EQ2 until Warhammer I hope, mid-next year.

So here's to my "I wish I was there" list:

Warhammer
Fallen Earth

I know what you mean. I was in the beta for PotBS for over a year and a half, and couldn't make myself play it. The avatar combat was terrible, and I never quite got a handle on the difficulty scale of ship combat. Most were able to be soloed very easily, but a few were designed to only be able to be done completed as a group. There was just no way to know that until you were in there.
WoW never got my interest, and atm the expansion for EQII has been a let down for me.
At least I only have a few more days before I can get back into Warhammer

I can totally understand. Right now I can't seem to find anything appealing to my mmorpg interest. I did sorta enjoy the Gods and Heroes beta but other than that I haven't subbed to an mmo for about 2 years. I've beta'd some in the last couple years (LOTRO, DDO, Tabula) but in the end I couldn't find a reason to actually pay for the game. Every now and again I'll fire up my froob acct in AO.

I think I'm just completely burnt to the core with mmo's and the same gameplay over and over. It's sad really cuz I usually enjoy the social aspects of these games.

At the end of the day, its the social aspects of MMO's that have kept me in such games as EQ2, City of Heroes/Villains, Warcraft, looong after I would have normally chucked it in and move onto something else.

Playing EQ2 now is a prime example of this. If it was not for the most excellent TOG guild I am currently with, I would be off playing Crysis, Call of Duty 4 and other offline games that offer gameplay light years a head of the current crop of button-masher "kill, rinse, repeat" MMO's.

I dunno, I played EQ2 for a while, and it was ok. Had RL friends there, who moved back to EQ or moved to WoW. I tried WoW on and off for a while, but it got old (the game, never TOG). Did Hellgate Beta and picked it up when it came out, quite enjoyable, but its pathetic how bad the Devs are being on fixing stuff or new content, which really irritates me to say the least.

Never got into Guild Wars, nor AO, nor CoH.

Did the EvE 14 day trial, while I enjoyed the game, ship movement did not really grab me, and combat was just about buttons, its a spread sheet with graphics, the universe is nice and huge, but it lacks the heart and soul of what a game should be. Where is the skill in repeating the same 11 missions 150 times. Its a good game, but I did not see the point of spending the next few years playing it.

I did the Pirates of the burning sea for a little bit sometime last year, but was NOT impressed what so ever.

Did Ut3 beta, hell my son enjoyed it more then I.

Currently doing Mythos Beta, but it does not click either, which is sad, because either Flagship will piss up a rope once it comes live like they have done Hellgate, or they will improve it and continue to piss on Hellgate, which will irritate me even more.

I enjoy Hellgate a TON but I have yet to meet a non TOG person who doesn't actually a fool, an ass or a 13 year old on crack. So the social aspect for me is non existent past guild chat.

Honestly, I long for a return to either original/beta Daoc or the 1st-2nd age of UO, where gaming was in a hayday, and not as bad as it seems to be now, which is odder.

The mentality of the MMO has shifted some what now, and since Blizz managed to make an MMO that even a trained chimp can play, the excitement has gone out of the games, as everyone wants their MMO to be WoW like.

I too prefer the social content of MMO's, but It looks like fps games might at least have an attraction to me as of late.

Seriously, the way WoW is developed, marketed and consumed, it should be renamed...

I agree and Disagree with this part. I agree that yes games are made to be extremely easy now and seem soley focused on the "solo" scheme of things al a WoW. It just gets old soloing in a game honestly I am paying for a Single Player MMO. I disagree do to the fact that City of Heroes/Villains was by far easier than a lot (Maybe the easiest) of MMO's but the thing is it was developed to be a social game. Oh look my new friend just joined the game let me Sidekick ya nad BAM we are teaming. It was all about playing with your friends and not totally about the levels. Hell whats killing CoX is the fact they refuse to do server mergers and the srvers are getting less and less populated. (Hence why I dont play it anymore) But I digress, Anyways the main thing about CoX was that a Majority of people could solo in the game but they put in place incentives that if you teamed up you got experience a hell of a lot faster in a well coordinated team.

I am not asking to "Force" teaming like the first generation MMO's but something more balanced where there is an incentive to team other than for instances. But like everyone has stated they all wanna follow the Money, I mean WoW formulae, of 9 million subscribers cuz thats all they see is the money and not the game anymore. But I have been preaching this for a few years now and its just getting worse and worse as time goes on. Oh well.

*Steps off soapbox*

I think in some way I'm looking for the same feeling I had when I first fired up UO or EQ and even AC. Back then (ugh sounds so long ago) these games pinoneered large scale mmo's (not forgetting M59 either). Comparable to the drug addicts high... I'll never find that sort of feeling again.

Nope its like virginity, you'll never get it back. Especially now that gaming is starting to be all about the benjamins.
