Paranoid
Default The rumor mill is in full production

It has recently been said that Cryptic will reveal their new game this week at GDC. Early reports say that the title is Champions Online and that it is a super hero MMO.

Now, we know that MUO is dead, but does that mean a Marvel license is dead? I think not.

The Champions was a Marvel title and had a three year run (75 to 78). It featured Angel, Iceman, Black Widow, Hercules and Ghost Rider.

Though, it is said that Heroic Publishing now owns the The Champions trade mark. However, their comic seems to be called League of Champions.

So, are we still going to see a Marvel title? Maybe, maybe not. I hope so, but will wait and see at this point.

I think Cryptic bit themselves in the butt when they Made City of Heroes that one is gonna be hard to beat for a Super Hero MMO.

So the same company that made City of Heroes is likely going to unveil a another superhero MMO?

Does it hurt to be that stupid?

Looks like a full announcement will come on the 20th.

But it is the Champions Universe from Hero Games that Cryptic bought. Not what I had originally thought, but very cool non the less. The Hero System has long been regarded as the best RPG rule set available.

I think this has a chance to way out class the COx games.

I liked the idea behind City of Heroes/Villians, quite alot actually. I am just not into that much of a grind any more.

well all MMO's are about the grind except for a few. No real difference between Grinding for Gear/Quests and Mobs except how fast you level.

Yeah I know, but having maxed out chars on grinding games for 10 years now in mmo's, it just gets really stale.

Yea but look at WoW, game is easy as hell but everyone and there mom talks about how hard the raids are. oh really? So the challenging part of the first quarter of the game is trying to stay awake for 70 someodd levels till you get to the real challenge? Ahhh yea sounds umm fun. Anyone can get to 70 with no real effort I remember when Ding used to mean something now its just a formality...oh well just glad Shadowrun MMO is not comin out in this day and age would be awful cuz it would most likely just copy and paste the WoW mechanics.

Looky what I found

Why Champions? | Champions Online

You can definately tell this is a Cryptic game just by the look of the costumes. is it just me or does it look kind of a cel shading style? I wasn't a fan of the whole Cel Shading thing at first (Thanks to Zelda:Wind sucky game) but other companies have pulled it off very well like Level 5 (Rogue Galaxy) so should be interesting how thats gonna work out if it is.
