Words cannot begin to describe how excited I am about this game!
![]() I've never played the tabletop version (although I've painted some of the figurines, which is a bit sad) but I'm really into the WH40K Universe. Other than everything else I hope it is (and it isn't an MMOFPS like Planetside, unfortunately) I'm having dreams - deep down inside where I live - of RvR with ranks of Space Marines, each in their own chapter's (i.e. guild's) armour colour, with their chapter's flags flying above their heads!!! Hopefully I won't explode with excitement (or implode with disappointment) when this thing comes out, in 2010 or whenever... FYI: Warhammer 40,000 Background Articles "Mankind teeters upon the brink of extinction. The galaxy-spanning Imperium of Man is beset on all sides by ravening aliens, and threatened from within by malevolent creatures and heretic rebels. Only the strength of the Immortal Emperor of Terra stands between Humanity and its annihilation. Dedicated to His service are the countless warriors, agents and myriad servants of the Imperium. Foremost amongst them stand the Space Marines, mentally and physically engineered to be the supreme fighting force, the ultimate protectors of Mankind. Wars rage over airless moons, in the dark, twisted depths of hive worlds and in the cold wastes between stars. From the immaterial realm of warp space, malicious entities send their unspeakable minions to slaughter the Emperor's chosen. Everywhere, souless spectres and slavering monsters are poised to estinguish the life of Humanity." .

I heard about this last year and I have to say as someone that grew up in England and played and painted WH40k tabletop since its release in 87 I am hanging for this. There is sooooo much scope for this as an MMO

How the hell are they going to pull this off?
* Space Marines are so uber, but brainwashed how can they ever be player characters? And the Empire is a paranoid dysfunctional regime that makes extreme-jihadists look like fluffy bunnies. * The Eldar trust ABSOLUTELY no-one so they would be a faction on their own. * Chaos is the same as humanity only the opposite extreme. * Orcs? Well at least they are honest, in a psychotic kind of way. * Tau, Necron, Tyranids. I can't see how many of these can be player characters. All I can think is they are going to have to avoid the whole military side of the game and use all that as simply a backstory to a civilian, adventurer, rogue trader type of role playing game.

I don't think either Necron or Tyranids will be playable I could see Tau being though. As I was saying to a mate there is no real good v evil, they are all messed up
I can see it being Imperium of Man (Space Marines and Imperial Guard) I can't see the Inquisition being playable, but I can see Grey nights and some level of Psykers being there at specific leveling points. Orks and Chaos and Eldar. I see no reason why there have to be any allies in this MMO, there are none in the universe really, Eldar believe themselves to be superior to all the other races, Orks just want to WAAH, the Imperium of Man despises everything non human, Chaos wants to turn all other races, Tau want to "Enlighten" everyone else and Necron and Tyranids simply want to wipe everything else out. I see no reason why there can't be multiple sides.

Can't wait. This is the game I've been waiting for for more years than i can count. After all the aborted attempts (this is the third official announcement of a 40K MMO IIRC) i just hope they can pull it off.
Eldar FTW! |

Yeah, this will be the ultimate MMO if it works well. So many great characters you could be. I have been playing the 40K since 89 and really looking forward to this one more so than any others, but it will be awhile. Heh, I might be retired by then and play full time.

This is the Warhammer that should have been made first.

I would imagine the best option would be to have three "teams" (like the three realms in DAoC for example).
To make this game popular with those potential players not intimately familiar with the WH40K universe, I guess the three sides would have to be the most familiar of the "races" in WH40K? If they go this way you would think the three would be... 1) Humans (Empire) - almost everyone wants to a Space Marine 2) Orcs - recognisable but possibly not if they're a major race in WAR? 3) Eldar - the WH40K equivalent of Elves...?
