Default Face of Mankind Open Beta

I recived a E-mail with a New Open Beta For the Faces of mankind for those who might want to check it out here is a Link FACE OF MANKIND

I have not tryed it out yet but it looks pretty good I will D/L it tonight and give it a try.

Face of Mankind is an MMORPG set in the 24th century. You are invited to play out the ageless battle of good vs. evil, and witness all shades of gray in between. Role-playing and your real-life skills are the raw ingredients of game play.

This MMORPG uses the first ever player-generated mission system, and combines it with sophisticated economics and complex player politics for a new kind of online experience. Only your ability to shoot, bargain, politic and otherwise duck and deal will advance your character’s private or corporate agenda. The success of each and every mission will determine your rise to the top, or your fall into obscurity. Whatever path you take in this astonishing world, plan well: one day, one minute or a single second could bring you to your destiny as the true Face of Mankind.

I've heard a few people saying that Face of Mankind was "the next big thing" (as happens with every MMO). It does look interesting with some (no doubt severe for some people) strong death penalties, full PvP, a detailed crafting system and no levelling. They also reckon that their server can cope with 100,000 players on a single shard.

I've signed up for the beta, hopefully I get an email soon.

I've been playing in the beta for a couple of days now. It has a lot of faults, mainly in the player run mission system, yet I'm still kind of enjoying it. Open PvP makes even doing some innocent shopping a dangerous and challenging endeavor.

I've been playing a LED patrolmen named Salvadore Inez, but may delete him to see how things work in the other factions. If others here are playing, I can make up a new character on the server and in the faction they are.

FYI, I switched to a character named Sebastian Grey in the American Enterprises faction. I'm still not too sure about this game, but it's keeping my interest for the moment. Curiously, tradeskills are a lot of fun with people shooting at you while you try to operate the production terminals. 8O

What is combat like? Do you need to aim at your target (CS style) or do you select your target, hit A, and your character attacks them (EQ style)?

The combat is all first-person shooter. The hard thing to get used to is that there are no names floating over the heads of other players or NPCs; you have to get up very close to see that. There isn’t even an arrow over their heads like in Tribes. Each faction has a particular color they use in there clothes/uniform, but that’s the only way to tell a friend from an enemy. It’s also open PvP so even members of your own faction will sometimes TK you. All this helps to create an environment of suspicion and paranoia that gives me some empathy for the soldiers patrolling Baghdad.

The MMORPG part is in the mining and production system that makes the weapons and equipment used in the game. In turn, battles can be fought to hold markets or the colonies that produce raw materials.

There are experience points in the game, but they determine rank in your faction rather than character ability. Those of higher ranks create and lead the missions the other players participate in (which is a problem in beta since those who were made higher rank to make missions aren’t doing it and no one can level up to the point that they can do it themselves.).

Hi all, a newb here wanting to pitch in on the conversation

Been on FOM beta for few months now, and have to say it has many faults/bugs, but still it could really be the next big thing.

The biggest problem I see is the lack of communication capabilities between players (unless you are using voice comm) and the chaotic mission teaming. So far I have only been playing on FDC side (FDC=military) and been having some fun fights in there.

Missions are all player made. It works so that the head of faction first makes an agenda for the faction. Then the high level officers make campaigns for that agenda and finally lower level officers make missions for those campaigns. It all depends on active player base and without it your faction can be in total standstill.

My name in FoM is Juha Mikkola aka Juhis, if you see me say hi

In the AE, we've only had a few missions created and none since last weekend. I went through all my started credits making a batch of energy cells, so if they don't sell and I can't make money from missions, I'll have to start over again. If I do, I'll make up a FDC and join you.
