Thanks Neimad, hadn't heard anything about this game in a while. That sounds promising, I'll be eagerly waiting the footage (August 10th at the official star trek convention for you trekkies out there).

Just signed up for the forums although there's not too much info there yet with the site barely a day old. Looking forward to the video.

Originally there wasn't going to be klingons at launch, just starfleet. I'm wondering what other changes may have taken place.

I read the blurb over at Mmorpg.com.

Quote:
Powered by the Cryptic Engine, Star Trek® Online will be developed for both console and PC formats. With customizable ships and characters from the Klingon Empire and United Federation of Planets, ground, space and shipboard gameplay and unique options for player-generated content set in the Star Trek universe, Star Trek Online is the MMOG that allows you to boldly go where no one has gone before!

Link.

I wonder as the game gets closer to release if they'll delay the console launch. If not user generated content features as stated in this press release.

Also note that NC Soft will be the most likely game publisher for Cryptic Studios for a STO boxed retail release. Sorta like how SOE and now Bioware needed to work with Lucas Arts for Star Wars game design issues. Cryptic Studios will have to work with Paramount Studios for any tweaking of game design content.

Woohooo flippin heck, after all the rumors on Mmorpg.com im glad they came true and what better company then cryptic to make STO Theres been so many disapointing rpgs released since WOW. Now champions online and STO are top of my list of games to play. I have full confience that Cryptic who created COX will deliver two more master pieces

Why do you think that? NCSoft seems more inclined to own whatever games they publish and not act as a separate publisher. They bought CoH/CoV, they cancelled the publishing deal with Spacetime Studios.

Cryptic also have said that they want to do everything themselves; although they did go with 2K Games for Champions Online.

I think people said the same thing about a Warhammer Online, how many companies have started that project and not brought it to fruition. *knocks on wood*

Ditto, with the set backs that Lord of the Rings Online had for years. Originally Sierra Online was going to develop it and they announced it around the time the original Everquest was in parallel development.

Then that fell apart to eventually being picked up by Turbine that brought the game to fruition.

Still STO was originally announced years ago by SOE. But when Lucas Arts went with SOE for SWG the deal with Paramount for a STO went away.

Sente, i'm showing my noobness by not knowing those details you mentioned about the publisher deal that Cryptic had with NC Soft. (i'd thought Cryptic was an in-house studio for NC Soft, my bad)
