Post I gamespy with my little eye, Star Trek

Here's a review featuring some questions to the developers over at gamespy. Not a lot of new information being provided although the period is confirmed and the introduction of 'new technologies' like transwarp in use by the federation was mentioned. I believe in another article I read they said the 'kittama achord' had expired, wasn't that the treaty between the federation/romulans that created the neutral zone and where starfleet agreed to not research and produce cloaked ships?

Here's another from Gamespot, not much new but it does recap things nicely.

After watching that Q&A session earlier I'm itching to pick up some of the books that continue past TNG, DS9, Voyager and the TNG movies. Can't wait for the online version, it's been years since I've had a weekly Trek fix.

I think its a great idea they're going to recap what happened since the movies ended gradually on their website.

Here's more info on the Khitomer Accord than you would ever want to know:

In the Star Trek universe, the Khitomer Accords comprised a treaty set down between the Klingon Empire, the United Federation of Planets and the Romulan Empire signed on the planet Khitomer in the year 2293. The accords were formulated after the destruction of the Klingon moon Praxis earlier that year, and whose key purpose was to aid the crippled Klingon Empire out of impending planetary destruction.

Delegates to the Khitomer Conference, held on the Klingon planet Khitomer, included: Rear Admiral Smillie and Admiral Cartwright of the Federation; Ambassador Nanclus and Senator Pardek of Romulus; Ambassador Sarek, the Vulcan envoy to the Federation; Chancellor Azetbur of the Klingon Empire; and various delegates of other planetary nations.

The Khitomer Conference was almost sabotaged by the Klingon renegade General Chang, working in collusion with the Romulan ambassador, the Vulcan Valeris, and Admiral Cartwright. A prototype ship, Pagh, capable of firing photon torpedoes while cloaked, was developed and intended for use in this capacity. However, the Federation starship USS Enterprise destroyed Pagh with Chang on board, and had the other conspirators arrested.
Among the agreements established at the Accords was a ban on subspace weapons.

The Accords were overturned by Chancellor Gowron during the Klingon invasion of Cardassia in 2372, but were reinstated in 2373 when Cardassia joined the Dominion.

The treaty between the Federation and the Romulans that set up the neutral zone and banned Federation cloaks was the Treaty of Algeron. This is precisely what happens when you had a Star Trek nut for a college roommate. ;-p

Wiki to the rescue again:
Quote:
One episode depicted a possible future of the Star Trek universe. In this episode, the Romulan Empire had fallen by 2395.[6] As a consequence, the Treaty of Algeron was now void. The Neutral Zone no longer existed,[7] and the Federation routinely used cloaking devices on its starships.[8]
That was seen in the last episode on ST:TNG but I don't remember how far in the future that was. My prediction though is that in STO's time we will have cloaked ships...especially considering if they consider the events in Nemesis as the empire falling.
