I had an idea, I had a look at the job openings over at Startrek Online. They had some designer jobs going and I had a look into those. Voilla...

Game Designer - Combat Systems We are currently looking for a full-time Game Designer - Combat Systems to work on our exciting new and ongoing projects. This design position is responsible for creating and maintaining fun and balanced combat gameplay. Combat systems require an understanding of the quantitative (e.g. damage, range, cooldown) and qualitative (e.g. effect of landscapes, player skill, timing) factors that affect the combat experience.
This position requires previous game design experience.

  • Providing an example of professionalism and excellence to the rest of the team.
What we'd like to see:
  • Experience designing combat related systems such as classes, combat, skills, etc.
  • Experience designing and implementing large numbers of game assets such as items, weapons, spells, or monsters.
  • Experience with scripting and/or data implementation.
  • 2+ years of industry experience.
  • Credit on at least one previous shipped game title with a strong combat focus.
  • Quantitative study of game systems.
  • Strong math and analytical skills.
  • Comic book knowledge.
  • Veteran game player.
  • MMP and/or RPG experience as player or designer.
  • Experience in platform and fighting games as a player or designer.
  • Programming experience.
  • 4-year degree.

Notice that line about experience in platform and fighting games? Remember all those boxing matches that Kirk (and some of the other captains used to get in). Wonder if they're going to have a little fistycuffs in the game combat?

went from 4 classes to 28. 65 skills and spells to 1100.
mobs went from 700 up to 5000.

I even wrote a random object generator when I got tired of creating objects. it can spew up some 300,000 unique named objects.

even went so far as to mess with ai, and put in more scripts then I could count.

Wow hey sounds like you did some fine work there DF. I worked developing zones for a mud once, and back in the day I helped out developing the start of a mudlike game on ACTIVE fun entertainment BBS too. Not so many things as you seem to have tossed up there though. I also made my own version of a BRE rip off game that was singleplayer although I doubt I could still do it, been so long since I coded like that haha.

Psh go apply anyway, you know they will probably end up hiring someone with only half all that stuff, it just helps them keep the volume of applicants down.
