Lurking
Default Rolling my eyes... yes, at you.

Just a (very slight) rant from last nights gameplay (WoW Euro). It has nothing to do with anyone from this forum, of course. I suspect my 'friend' was a bit new to the genre, or gaming in general. Who knows, who cares.

Facts: my char is a dwarven huntress, lvl 13 at the time (14 soon after, hooray!) The other guy, we'll call him 'Bier' as this figured prominently in his name, was a comparable lvl, and a rogue.

I have not teamed with nor have I played a rogue myself. I have, however, done some reading on the class, so I knew what we are in for.

He asked for help going into a mine shaft filled with hyper re-popping bastard rat thingies. I said sure, as I still needed to gather some quest items there, and the cave is a pain to do alone, to say the least.

We take on the first several things, along with some geomancers, everything is reasonably fine. He doesn't appear to be using any special skills, though, just combat. okaay. Further in to the cave, I'm keeping my pet close (too many side alleys, he'll just draw everything out onto me) to attack things that come onto me. I stop when I see new rat-things, cast my typical spells, fire off a few shots until it arrives on top of me, along with a friend or two.

Then 'Bier' goes charging ahead. wtf? Immediately gets 3-4 guys on him, and I'm still working on the ones we had on us to start. Fighting, etc, you know the story. He dies, I finish with my guys (but am way low on health, natch) and I inherit his mistakes at full aggro speed. I die shortly after.

In the MEANTIME, he starts bitching via msg "HEY how can I be expected to take all the aggro? wah wah wah sniff pityparty" I didn't respond, because the game would just edit out all my choice words, anyway. But man, if you wanted to be a tank, be one. I don't think rogue is the class for you.

FYI, I had done this same level with an actual reasonable tank, a lvl 14 paladin, and he had been just as cautious as I had been. We did really well, albeit with a few hairy moments. It was great. Even if my pet did decide to play hero a few times. heh.

Alright, I'm babbling. But I really wanted to complain about his msg to me, and my non-gaming husband just doesn't understand. I'm not even sure if this is the right forum for this, but here you go.

I need coffee now.

I would have set him staight. Something along the lines of

"you stormed ahead, you aggroed the mobs too early, you got yourself killed and then you got me killed. So you can get [removed for FAQ/AUP vialation]"

You are the one that should have been angry, not him.

[EDIT Rickety] Removed swearing.

*groan*

Yeah, Sancho (and I) know this kind of pain all too well; we used to team up in COH as Regen/Spines Scrapper and a Emp/Psy Defender, pretty much a perfect team for taking down groups....

...and some pickup 'tard would decide that his blaster had to take the aggro, and that Sancho and I had to keep him alive.

Forgive his French, but its still a recent, raw memory :P

Profanity filter? for the forums? Or for the game? (Neither Sancho or I play COH anymore)

yup yup been there.. had that happen many times.

Sometimes we get good groups going for caves and such in WoW.. other times we have one or two guys who run ahead of everyone else and die off fairly fast. THEN they have the nerve to get all pissy and complain about being in a party that lets them die. Yeah... ok... THEY were the ones who ran off ahead when normally I or another person shoot to draw the enemies in one at a time.

It's usually funny after they scream their full head off then abandon the party. It's not like I want them in my party anymore after that behavior anyway. I give them a chance, ,but it they continue to behave like that and not work as a team, they're outta there..

Yes! It just pisses me off to no end when they get all stroppy over what was THEIR mistake.

Something similar happened last night, though it had a more amusing ending. I was working an elite quest with another hunter friend, just for exp. We weren't entering the really hairy area (full of ogres, all too close to one another for us to avoid getting a spare when pulling). We had both already completed the quest earlier, in a larger group (amusingly, a group of 5 hunters. We were like a travelling zoo)

Anyhoo, an elf Rogue shows up with a priest friend, wants us to help them kill of a few so they can finish their quest. We were skeptical, but said why not. I have already done the quest area a few times now.

We head in to the valley. There is already another large group taking down ogres. We are unable to get anything that they aren't already killing. So our new friends try some odd tactics, running around after the larger group, basically not sticking as a group at all. Priest dies, mainly because no one knew where the hell he was, anyway. Then Rogue screams for healing, proving that he wasn't paying attention to our party situation at all.

They both decide they aren't getting experience with us, they are going to leave for the bigger group. We both said good riddance, politely. However, this left us back as a pair, in the middle of the place we had been avoiding before. sigh. We try to stick to the perimeter, but are discovered by 2 elite ogres and an elite ogre shaman. Sweet death on a stick. No, wait, look, it's...

A lone warrior comes to help. We live. We party him, at his request. He says he just needs a few more, could we help him? Fine. Sticking together, we do a fine job.

Then, not 5 minutes after dismissing us as idiots, we get our rogue friend whimpering back to us that the other group sucks, he wants to join us again. Full CAPS LOCK SCREAMING about it.

um, no. haha.

To wit: we gathered two more extra people (more hunters, oh the comedy), finished that quest and the extra at the end. Rogue is probably still there, screaming for help. idiot.

PS - sorry for such rambles. As I said before, I have no one to vent to here in person, so I'm taking it out on y'all. Don't mind me.

PPS- to the responses earlier: I guess I just suck at telling people in-game just what I think of them. Unless they are super confrontational about it, I just let them be on their way. The young teens especially seem able to make a vendetta last ages, and I am not there for that type of game.
