Default Need something new...

Help me to find something new to pass away my spare spare time. (My spare time is taken up with wife and daughter so only spare spare time is available )
Originally started with EQ then EQ2 then WoW then EQ2 then Wow then LOTR then WoW then Warhammer back to WoW and have now find myself hardly playing WoW at all.
Like a good community in my games so obviously something that TOG is i. Huge fan of questing rather than grinding and not so much into end game content rather just the fun of playing the game and working with others.

Any suggestions???

*cough* new Warhammer alt!

WoW really championed the quest level up, older mmo's had them surely but nowhere near the same level and mostly just lead you to areas suitable for grinding up. I'd recommend something newer, Age of Conan has an interesting start up and there's a TOG guild there with a flourishing city from what I understand. Most of the problems with the game were in a lack of end game content that has been worked on a lot since launch.

Try hopping into some of the other TOG MMORPG divisions and see what people think of the game their playing. Many provide services for free trials so you can get your feet wet in the game and also have introduced yourself to the community to see if you like them.

Yeah I didn't last long either to be honest, but have been hearing good things recently of it and considering checking it out again. I'm afraid I mostly specialise in 'the next mmo thats not yet out' rather than whats come and gone.

Might want to check Atlanticia Online
It's a free Turn base MMO . . it does have a item mall, but you can reach end game with out ever spending real cash.

Since it is a free game, it would not hurt to test the waters there.

AOC is a lot better than what it was, but that is not to say it is finished. They have added content and have plans for more. I wouldn't be surprised if they raised the cap this year.

A bit thumbs down to raising level caps.

I want games companies to add more content, not more grind.

Come join us on Guild Wars Raven. There are three different games (chapters) and one expansion. Prophecies is the first, where you start in Pre Searing, which is really to teach you what it's all about. When you leave Pre, the game really starts. Many people don't like Pre, they find it boring, but many love it and have a permanent Pre Searing character who never leaves.

The second chapter is Factions. Not the favourite game for most though once you leave the dreadful city, it is lovely.

Nightfall is the third. A lot of people start with this one as you can get heroes pretty quickly, but I personally think it's better to start in Prophecies, mainly to follow the storyline.

Eye of the North is the most recent expansion.
You can really play each chapter as a stand alone game, but once you're hooked you will want to get them all.
Of course you have to buy each one, but that's it. There is no monthly charge and no cash shop.
There are often specials in the games shops, or you can buy the client directly through the game. (Cheaper to buy from a shop, especially now with our weak dollar.)
The TOG alliance is made up of 5 guilds. People join the one that has people from their own time zone but we all chat in alliance chat and we use Team Speak a lot. For Aussies the guild name is Temple.

I hope you'll give it a try. You will be most welcome

Personally I go for combat over content. That is just me. The only combat system I like better than AoC is DDO. Unfortunately, DDO just doesn't have solo content all the way through, otherwise I would be playing that game.

The other game where I thought the combat was neat was in Saga of Ryzom. There you make your own attacks and spells. Very cool system.

If you want content, then you have to go with an established game that has been in production a few years. I do play Guild Wars and that has a lot of content. It also is a neat system where you max your level at 20 and then still gain xp to use in getting skills.

If I was primarily a crafter, then SWG would be it. I haven't found a crafting system (that had a combat system) as good as that.

In line with that, Bioware is promising tons of content on launch for TOR, which I am eagerly awaiting. If they can provide a similar crafting system to SWG and a good combat system, then I will be playing that game for a long time. Till then, AoC for me.
