Default DRM loosened on Neverwinter Nights 2

3FL Online Gaming Network

IGN are reporting that the DRM restrictions on Neverwinter Nights 2: Mysteries of Westgate have been relaxed.

According to the article the 3 activations limit, which has caused a good deal of grief for fans of the game with multiple PCs has been dropped. Instead they have reverted to requiring just a one-time activation and then the ability to install as often as required.

Unfortunately the article is not clear on how this affects other expansions and the core game going forward, but any relaxing of DRM is a positive step. Hopefully it is also an indication that publishers are realising just how much DRM alienates paying customers.

I simply cannot leave it at that.

Sony to Help Remove its DRM Rootkit | Betanews

Note the age of the link I chose: Sony birthed RK's by modifying unix tricks/code and promulgating it everywhere. Notice the WoW bot when gamers grabbed it, in the comments.

I loved NWN and spent quite a bit of my time trying out the various persistent worlds, and even ran a version of some Fire Mountain or something that I modified for a while. When NWN2 came out I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. But for some reason whenever I try playing I just can't seem to get into it. I get about as far as getting into the swamps after the tutorial and my interest just sort of floats away.

Are there persistent online worlds like there were in the first game? Maybe I'd have more interest if I tried hopping into one of them instead of going through the single player campaign.

edit: The PW module I was running was called Death Mountain by SolarFlare. Had some great times with that. Even had a few loyal players that kept returning for more.

Good question Sschrupp, I made it a little further (into some city) and my interest just waned. One day I just stopped loading it up to see what came next. I just found the whole singleplayer experience a lot less exciting than mmorpgs somehow.

I went out and paid top dollar for NWN to find I had no idea what the hell I was doing...
I couldn't give the game the patience or the time back then. Now might be another story, but I play enough games for SWMBO to have a go at me.

Exactly where I gave up lol.
Wish I could run nwn1 on this machine so I could annoy old friends occasionally, but it crashes due to graphics card/forceware or something and havent found a workaround.
