The Daily Grind: What part of MMOs do you not like? - Massively

What is it about an MMORPG that makes your skin crawl? Something that pisses you off so much you sometimes just logoff, or cancel your subscription? What is it about these games that most annoys you and that you wish would no longer plague your favorite games?

But, for Surly Bob and the other "old school evil players" nostalgic for the glory days of Ultima Online – it won’t happen again. Ever. That moment in time was unique – and it’s gone. Because there will never again be a time where there is only one MMO. The market has matured to the point where there will always be choices. And in a dog-eat-dog PvP game, there will only be the PvPers, not the targets. Because now people actually have the choice of selecting which game to play, which game suits them best. If a person is targeted for the tender mercies of "evil players" – they simply will cancel and move on. The days of UO’s One World where many mutually exclusive play styles are forced to interact, on the terms of the more socially maladroit, are over. The market has fragmented, and cannot be put back together. People, when forced to play the role of "sheep" or "stupid newbie", will simply leave.

Sorry, guy. Your time is over. Stupid newb.

Certainly would not make me cancel.I simply do not like all these silly, childish resource nodes.I always imagine a 5/7 yr old dancing with glee as he/she gets the message "5 copper mined"

Worst case fishing in darkfall.

One is the amount of grinding you need to get from A to Z , Mmo's are supposed to be fun but when you're doing endless grinding just to get to that mega level i think the fun factor is taken away and you get the feeling thet amount of work outweighs the fun you should have and it makes me feel that i am working a second job .

Two is i sometimes regret getting into online gaming because just the amount of drama i have seen is ridiculious and some players just take ti to the extreme and make the game unfun for others where it should be just plain good ole fun .

And i think the one thing drives me up the wall in mmo's now is the actual repetiveness
cause for the last 5 years majority of the mmo's i have played seemed geared towards raiding and it can downright get very much boring

To be honest i wish we had more sandbox mmo's like eve , there is no reason why developers can come up with more mmo's where the end game is what you make it to be not force one path .

I really hope that for the next 10 years we see more mmo's that make it less grinding more sandboxish and overall more fun and rewarding .

Other then that i am so thankful that i have tog cause if it werent for you guys i would of given up on mmo's .

If there is anything i have learned from mmo's is that i have infact ragequited , as much as i hate to admit it but i have learned some valuable lessons from mmo's that do infact help me in real life .

Sometimes i need to logout not go all extreme and relax and get away for a few days . thats why whenever i feel really angry frustrated or whatever i'll tend to listen to some relaxation music which really helps me in alt of ways .

This, and everything else in your post, is exactly why I am so looking forward to Mortal Online.

I am the type of player who likes to enjoy the scenery, but also likes to be a part of everything a game has to offer. This is often a mutually exclusive thing, as in most games you either level slow and enjoy the scenery (but get left behind), or you level fast to stay with the curve and get to endgame.... invalidating all the cool stuff along the way.

I am looking heartily forward to a game without levels, without forced "you must achieve this, or get this gear, or do this thing before you can really play the game" type mechanics.

Cheers,

Flint

I would say the long level up grind, and expansions that raise the level cap. Full pvp server/games (its just not my thing, I never play on them, don't mind if they exist for others who do like them). Games that are too focused (pve/pvp, or solo/group - I like options in gaming).

My view is changing now that I realise how prevalent macros and exploits have become, and probably always were; condoned in some games, not in others, both officially and unofficially by the "powers that be". I would like to think one title could offer everything, but I don't atm.

So I have adopted a twelve month plan to play 3 titles, lol. One from what I see as each MMO class. Aion and DFO have won a place, I think it would be wrong not to try AoC for a bit, but Rourke and Reoh's comments about CoH might mean that takes the third slot eventually.

All I can say here is, that TOG really allows you flexibility and the chance to get a great feel of games. I am very glad they were recommended to me, and if you are even considering joining TOG I think it unlikely you would regret that move, regardless of title. The community is more important sometimes than the game itself.

Peace.

Yeah right now i took my two week reinvite back to aoc , And although i haven't go the chance to play it i think aoc compared to other mmo's have made it fun because it offers more then just one avenue of content , it has given player city houseing and meaningful pvp and also raiding and from their latest interview are going to be really working no more social and guild options .

Also while i hate 80 levels i think it is important to note that as long as it doenst require million and millions of xp to reach point a to point b or whaever even a high level cap is fine .

Just t go off base for a second , Look at star wars galaxies for example yet it does have 90 levels but the actual fact of reach cl 90 cna be done in maybe a month at a casual rate because my best friend joe still playing and he plays maybe 2 times a week at most .

So any game can have a high level cap hehe , it's the amount of grinding xp just for each level i have a problem with .

I totally agree, especially the grind! My biggest hate though is games that allow open PKing. Not PvP but Player Killers. People who can attack and kill other characters at any time. There is nothing worse than desperately fighting some monster that you are finally getting down, or just doing your own thing and having fun, and having some higher level player come past and kill you just for the fun of it. That's especially so if it has taken you 4 days to get half a level and you lose it when you die ( that's another thing I hate, losing experience when you die). I have left 3 games because of PKing, never to return.
I will never play a game that doesn't allow you to change the game controls to suit the individual. Camera control and the choice to use keyboard or mouse. It boggles my mind when games refuse to do this.
