Default Do you play the same class in every MMO?

Do you play the same class in every mmo?

Short answer, yes and no. Thats because I have horrible alt-itis and try to play every class that a game has to offer. I appreciate the diversity, and I like to see how they all play with one another. They teach me things about my favorite classes and what they can do to help out others to become better in group situations. Since I'm playing lots of classes I'm not really playing that one special class though!

On the other hand, I do have a couple of archetypal classes I prefer. Your basic mage and stealther are always one of the first few I trial. I also regularly end up playing a healer because I enjoy helping people and being able to run around randomly healing strangers or helping out my friends in groups (and so groups can actually get somewhere!) is also important to me.

How about you?

SWG: I was a creature handler/marksman predominantly.

WoW: I played as a feral druid, but had a healing set, and spent most of my vanilla wow days healing off spec, I also have a Hunter and a Warlock that I played extensively.

CoX: I played as a Scrapper, Spines and super reflexes, I enjoyed the melee immensely, although my other "main" was a radiation defender "healer"

I guess you could say I like to enjoy as many aspects of a game as possible "a nice way of admitting that I'm an Altaholic "

My 2 fave classes in TF2 are Medic and Pyro, it's all about balance I guess.

Tank, in pretty much any MMO, I mean I have plenty of alts too, but in almost every game I like to have a tanky-type as my "main".

I play mmorpgs like some people play alts.

I do tend towards either healing or tank type classes but I'm pretty varied never the less, specially since there are games out there which don't revolve around the standard archtypes. (EvE, Planetside, WW2 Online, Asheron's Call etc)

Hell, I've even played 1 mmorpg which didn't have ANY combat in it at all.

Pew Pew, its all about the Pew Pew :P Play mainly pet classes or pure DPS classes. I like to solo some so pet classes for the solo times, DPSers for group/raid so on. Sometimes the two combine as in WoW.

Have played about every popular MMO since beta of EQ1 and I cannot remember ever playing a tank class...have played healers some. SWG well there really was no "class" per say but preferred TKM/Master rifleman combo myself till I unlocked

Well let'see i like playing more of a tank role but i don't mind a caster but it has to have a certain feel for me to consider playing one lol .

In dark age of camelot I played a Friar on Lancelot , A necromancer as well both were fun classes cause for the firar i could pretyt much do it heal when i needed to the buffs were very nice and overall friars were a tough class to play against if you played your friar right and pending on the spec it was , As for the necromancer i found it a bit fun because it was easy to pl and farm stuff .

Now Hibernia was my realm for many reasons . I played a chanter and while it was more difficult to play it it made great in grp for keep and tower defense and also for a pure hib bomb grp . The tank classes i could never really try to get one down maybe because of the game mechanics and such but the warden and hero classes i really wanted to try .

And finally my all time fav class in daoc completely was the eldritch , I had a 46 Light 28 mana spec eldy and the dps was great but i also, had alot of utility from a decent mez and aoe disease and great nearsight and stunn , Most of my rvr time was on the eldy and i really miss playing it lol .

But what i liked about wow was playing a warrior tank and pally tank as well
I guess what matters for me for each mmo is the fun factor if i ain't having with the tnaking style ine one game but like the casteing more then it is simple i'll play a caster role and vice versa with tnaking , Each game is different for me overall in terms of whct classes i will play .

Being an altoholic I tend to try out many different classes/archetypes/professions/jobs, at least if the game is somewhat alt-friendly.

I tend to favour "multiple approach" roles, i.e. where there can be a combination of various types of activities in combat (assuming the choice has to do with combat). More pure roles like just dealing damage, just healing or something else is less interesting.

Given the roles in a number of MMOs, this tends to be some kind of support or hybrid role, or possibly something with an interesting/different game mechanic.

In that regard both Guild Wars and City of Heroes/Villains are great, since there are many options to play around with there. The old SWG was also pretty nice in this area.

G'day,

Any new MMO i approach I usually start of with what goes for a classic tank toon (or as close to a basic tank build as i can manage) as they are generally uncomplicated and allow me to spend some of that energy on other aspects of the game to get a feel for it.

After the first 1 or 2 toons learning and exploring the game (if i like the game enough to consider it worth hangin around in) then I will put more thought into other toons.

I tend to like to have one toon that i try to accomplish as much as possible within the game on...and then other toons as needed later on to fill any niches that the main toon cannot cover.

With the one im currently hooked on there is no set classes per-se....you start with basically a blank toon (u choose the appearance, starting town etc of course) and choose to put points you earn into whatever fields you wish....so you could if you wish for example be a medically minded toon that can use a rocket launcher and heavy weaponry or a very agile toon that likes to get in close and personal and give those snipers a nice new shave with your blades...whilst wearing great armour.....or anything in between...the choice is yours....part of why that game has me hooked...that and the sandbox nature of it.

regards,
B

I tend to just dive in and play a multitude of class types, i have yet to find the one class type i find comfortable playing the most so i just tend to waste as much time as possible and play anything.
