Default I hope the Aussie firewall doesn't effect this game <insert title here>

I guess because it started in China it wont, but who knows? Maybe the WoW hold-up is exactly that ?

Meant to post this in Aion forum

The issue with games being blocked is on account of it being classified as 'unrated material' as the Australian ratings authority doesn't rate online games because of their constantly changing content. Incidentaly they don't have an R18+ rating either... the only western country in the world not to .

We can thank South Australia and their Attorney General for that

That sucks for you guys (and me if I eventually move over there).

I wonder what their take would be for Mortal Online, with its full gore, full frontal nudity and intended mature, 18+ rating...

Its an online game, so it automatically doesn't get classified. (which means as far as the censor is concerned, blocked anyway - but then so would a game like free realms, or hello kitty online).

Take Action - No Clean Feed - Stop Internet Censorship in Australia

The real background and story ?
Quote:
If I try to "import" a censored web page and it's "seized at the border" by ISP filtering, there's no avenue for appeal. Indeed, since the ACMA list is secret there's no particular reason to believe that I'd even know that the reason the webpage is inaccessible is due to censorship rather than some arcane random technical failure. No notification, no appeal, no method to redress grievances.

No other Australian media is, or ever has been, treated in that way.

Even if the Minister's bizarre claims...
From Internode ISP representative Mark Newton.

Its a colossal waste of money. They could have spent a fraction of what they've already wasted (in an economic crisis no less) and used it to teach parents the internet safety and family skills they need to protect their children. This could have been a lot more succesful, along with the NetAlert initiative that has been in effect for a long time but almost no Australian parent has even heard of.

This may or may not be a pet peeve of mine... haha

Or just advertise this one.

Home | Stay Smart Online

And host an Aussie openDNS, even from the states its still faster than using telstras backbone for domain name resolution, most of the time. But then the salesmen getting into our pockets courtesy of Mr Conroy would miss out.

OpenDNS | Providing A Safer And Faster Internet

Turn OpenDNS into a Parental Filter | Lifehacker Australia

And I like the idea of trusting the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights to the United States Constitution and the contributors to openDNS.

Quote:
while the First Amendment protects and fosters individual self- expression as a worthy goal, it also and as important affords the public access to discussion, debate, and the dissemination of information and ideas. Despite Bellotti's emphasis upon the nature of the contested speech being political, it is clear that the same principle, the right of the public to receive information, governs nonpolitical, corporate speech. 42
With some qualifications, therefore, it is submitted that the speech and press clauses may be analyzed under an umbrella ''expression'' standard, with little, if any, hazard of missing significant doctrinal differences.
This was a major reason why the Australian Bill of Rights was taken "off-the-table" by an earlier government.

I want them to tell us what games will be affected. In the "balance of probabilities".

Every gamer should email the good gentlemen to ask them which MMO games they will be allowed to play with their Aussie mates ?

I am going to go quiet on this for a bit though. Till I can form a more enlightened opinion, as others offer theirs. You wouldn't happen to have a full list of online games we can ask them to clarify about, would you as this one is a little obsolete, no ?
