Man, I am glad I dropped it when I did. They can't even decide what type of game they want EQ2 to be and already they are trying to suck more $$ out of the playbase...read more here

This is the response I wrote for the mmorpg.com forum (and for those that haven't met or know me, I WAS one of the biggest proponents of EQ2 prior to and at release):
This only makes me happy I made the decision to leave EQ2 when I did...about a month ago, because I was tired of the constant gameplay changes. I played EQ1 from commercial release until the summer of 2004. I played EQ2 from release until that month ago. I just couldn't stand the fact that almost every patch was an attempt to turn EQ2 into WoW. It was already bad enough the with only the two cities, DEs living with Ogres and humans, etc. But the constant changes were enough to make me call it.
I won't say I'll never play an SoE game, because if they decide to go back to the things that made EQ1 a great game (lots of diversity, lots of world, lots of magic, etc), I would try it again. And before you say it took EQ1 a LONG time to have a big world, pause and count the number of beginning cities there were, along with races and classes, at launch.
I also don't dis the soloers, as I sometimes like to solo. But to think there would be two sets of rewards, one for solo and one for group, is ludicrous. All that happens then is that groups plow through the solo content with no challenge so they can be the most uberest of uber.
What irritates me the most is that they haven't even decided on what type of game they want, but there has already been one adenture pack released with another on the way (at a higher price if you didn't notice), and an expansion pack for PvP ( which I agree with an above poster, why do those who want PvP HAVE to pay $30 to participate?). Personally I loathe PvP in an RPG...was there PvP in tabletop D & D? Well, barring being charmed?
I will be getting Guild Wars in the next day or two to give it a go...yes, I know it's a different type of game, but at least I know it will be pretty much the same game from day to day...will it hold my interest? Who knows...but I won't have to pay a monthly fee, two adventure pack fees, and an expansion pack fee (yet) to find out!! Yes it has lots of PvP, but I am also told there is a TON of PvE content that I can enjoy...
