Cryengine 3: Change how many games are released console only ?

As the underlying technology for Crysis 2, the CryEngine 3 technology reflects Crytek's recent expansion into multiplatform development. The engine is designed to support development not only on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PCs, but Crytek claims its scalability will also make it a viable choice for the next generation of platforms.

I aint got a clue what this post has to do with MMO's lol, unless some next gen MMO is deciding that its gonna use the cryengine to make its game then go for it i say because the graphics would be stunning..but you would need a damn good computer to run it. Other then that the cryengine should be left in the hardware chat section or the FPS section..because thats where you hear the most about it.

I apologise for putting it in the wrong place Coldcam. I only play MMO's and stumbled at the Crymod site in the last post he says

CE3 Title: In addition to Crysis 2 is a MMORPG in development, however, there has been NO further commentary ... !

..that this might mean more games are not released console only. But you are right its definitely hardware chat atm.

Can it be moved to the right spot please? And I can go catch the up to date news there.

Unfortunatly I cant move it but im sure Ned or someone will, and because of the fact that it does say that their is an MMO this thread should probably actually stay here..can start people gossiping about what a MMO would be like with the CE3 haha boy that would be sweet..so dont apologise You went with you your gut about where to put it and thats all right.

These days the line between shooters and MMO's is blurring. Just look at Global Agenda, Crime craft and All Points Bulletin. Even Jumpgate Evolution and Black Prophecy in their own way as Spaceship shooter style games.

i prefer to call those games as MMOCLG or Massive Multiplayer Online Confused Little Guys Only because they didnt know if they were an RPG or an FPS so got stuck with what is now known as MMORPS or MMOCLG as i call them haha.

and he licensed CE2 to build that game Jake Song isn't likely to let someone steal the march on CE3, is he if the maps are upgradeable ? This could happen really fast (relatively) if thats the case ?

Hehe, sorry for being cheeky mate. No to your question about the released one, I reckon though a sequel or expansion pack is a strong contender perhaps.

I started doing homework on which games run which engines and the middleware so I could at least understand better. I looked up a few of the ones we have tagged in Reohs' Upcomming MMO Discussions Index sticky and it seems like unreal 3 as Funkys' write up on otherland mentions has the upper hand in most that TOGgers are interested in, so I suggest maybe thats the place to start. Then maybe which games in console are close to the right genre, like that one thats paired with EvE online.
Because the chat is normally on a separate port, so I guess its just like an overlay you can add to a game "something" like installing Yahoo messenger or pidgin using CryEngine 3.

Normally if there is a forrest and some trees I am looking for somewhere to put the esky and the BBQ.

You might be able to help a knowledge challenged older gamer, perhaps which games in that list are going to use each one please ? One of those would be my best guess atm till I learn more. And I am betting in the other forum there is a thread or post that explains like the entry level way of understanding it, and thats what I am looking for in there. Like you said its hardware console discussion type stuff normally and I am starting off a really low knowledge base.

I think it may be really good for PC mmorpg players as I asked in the OP, but having trouble identifying how it all fits together in k.i.s.s Terms I can understand. It matters because I want to get a console for Xmas, and decommission windows from my life, if possible, other than for work.

But im sure someone will help me out with it while i try and figure out what it all means..But i reckon a game using the CE3 for an mmorpg would be at the top of the scales graphic wise...but without a storyline and something that catchs..it wont get very far..as some MMORPG creators need to realise...you can have the best graphics but with a overdone storyline and not much gameplay its better off undownloaded(unbrought).
