Default Rumor : Chinese mmo's are going to ban crossdressers

I found this article on a French mmo site and decided to translate it for you guys.

Aurora Technology, daughter company of Shanda, a big editor of Chinese mmo's, knocked their fist on the table. It's no longer acceptable that one female avatar out of two is played by someone of the other sexe.
So this society has put up an identification system using a webcam for tracking down the players who are in violation of this. The principle is not new because this is allready in use for two years on the Chinese mmo King of the World.
But it seems (this has not been confirmed by official sources), that this new system could also be put in use for other games in China edited by this company, such as Dungeons and Dragons online, Company of Heroes and even Aion.
Girls however don't need to worry, they have the permission to keep on playing their handsome muscled warrior in armor.

In an unrelated story, the number of new female avatars created plummeted by 95% from the last few years average.

Thanks to their one child policy and the resulting Gender-based birth rate disparity, most Chinese MMO's are going to become virtual sausagefests.

Well I find the article hard to believe on one hand and highly probable on the other. Certainly it wouldn't be hard to check the account gender and match it to the available toons you can create.

But what I don't get is the logic. I personally don't play female toons, but I don't see any reason to prevent people from playing them, male or female. I treat everyone like they had a sausage. In other words, I ignore them.

I tend to believe it because when I played the Korean beta of Ragnarok II The gate of the world, players had to fill in their identity card number to be able to get into the beta. That was not only because they only wanted Koreans to play the beta but also to prevent guys from playing female characters. Since they could see if the identity card holder was male or female you could only make characters of your own sexe. But off course lots of players just subscribed with their sisters identity card for example, so their system wasn't really waterproof.
I got my account from a graphic designer who works for a game developer.
