Starport is a pretty fun game and its free. 2D graphics but you can easily get hooked on it.

Guild Wars might not be a true RPG, but it's free (no sub). Great way to pass some time.

ryl pote has a free 15 day pass or you could try either eve online or ryzom all have 15 days trials.

I believe Anarchy Online still has its option to play for free if you play the game without any expansions. It was great fun to play a few years ago, so it might be well worth trying out.
