Breezy
Default STO or WOW (RotLK)

Hey All

Guessing it might be helpful to ask this question in here.

I feel like playing an MMO again, comming into the colder cycle of weather and trying to just knuckle down and save money it makes sense to play an MMO.

So inbetween my runs in BFBC2 I was thinking about picking up an MMO again

I have played in the past
WOW (to 68 BC, only raided in Vanilla 40's)
WAR
CO
RoM
DnDO

I have never really been into end game, though I did do some 40 raids in early WoW

So recently I have tried STO, and it was interesting but hard to get a feel for the games as you only get to do the first mission

And I also am currently trying WoW RotLK where I started a Death Knight, which seem fairly decent.

What one of these games offers more to the causual player? I know STO has the away team which indicates it might be solo friendly but WOW has changed so much since I played last it also seem solo friendly with all the new grouping systems etc

Anythoughts , im not intrested in WOW su*ks or that kind of thing more helpful advice as I like both but cant play both..

IMHO, Wow. It's very casual friendly and quests are easily soloed or the random dungeon finder makes grouping a breeze.

Try out Mortal Online it releases this week (Wednesday), is totally awesome, and will be casual friendly for sure (no levels, its a sandbox game)

I may be a bit biased, but check it out anyway! hehe

MO sounds like EVE style game, that would make it way to much work to play?

Currently I play BC2, Allods Online and Global Agenda.

I subscribe to Global Agenda, and is sort of a 3rd-person shooter MMO (the MMO part is a bit of a grey area) - however I can get away with playing it reasonably casually, but that is up to you.

Allods Online is a nifty free to play MMO (with micro-transaction cash shop) which is more a traditional MMO, our forum section (sub forum of this one) has a great deal of info on it written up by Illuminist mostly.

Shout out if any of those interest you. Also, for both of those games you don't have to sub to try them out, so if you can handle the download they are both worth a look.

If you want to choose between those two, as much as I hate it and would say WOW Sux, I'd say go with wow over STO, the away missions are dull and repetitive, If you've played the first mission, it is probably more involved than any other mission I encountered. I didn't mind the ship combat, but it wasn't enough to continue playing for. While they do appear to be improving things, I'm not sure their focus is in the right place. That first mission in STO is far more involved than anything I saw for the next month.

Not really imo, not any more than you would want to put in. The game is much less complex that EvE, and you will have a good support structure with the guild. I guess the key thing is, you will never need to commit x hours every y days to raiding to actually see any content...

I recently started back up in WOW, and they've made a bunch of new features that makes it very easy to get back in and having fun again if thats what you're inclined to do. With Cataclysm coming out sometime later this year probably, it's a good time to get yourself all set for the new xpac.

between WOW and STO, I would choose STO and do. If you want more variety of characters, than STO's cousin Champions Online is a good game.

In some ways it isn't a fair comparison between WOW and STO, since WOW has more years behind it than STO has months. STO is definitely solo friendly and you can get purples without having to raid or even PvP, and PvP is always consentual and to me fun. Plus they are adding more content almost every month now. As far as missions go, I never thought WOW had really much to it either from the story side, nor were most of them anything but kill x of y, but of course your opinions may differ on that. At least in STO some missions actually have you meet people from the various series or their relatives, and that was pretty cool.
