So do I! If it was only on Steam it would be working. Now that they are tied to the devil called SOE. You need to hold you nose and use a very long spoon to sup with the devil.
Another excuse is due to the thanksgiving holiday in the US, they would be under resourced to cope with solving any player problems to be expected with a new influx of gamers returning to the game.
Hence the week after thanks giving (the one week delay) means they can staff up to handle the flow of new players.
1. What does that mean for TOG PotBS Society?
1.a. Tortuga
Oriental
Guards (
TOG)) Pirate Society to form on
Antigua (US Peak Playtime).
The only issue is that you can only change factions within the first 72 hours (3 days) after a server victory has been declared. This happened on Sunday.
So with the delay, the option to switch factions before the start of the round has now closed.
As the launch date is slipped, you need to be careful about what nation you are subbed to on
Antigua (US Peak Playtime).
Currently I have an alt
French level 2 Naval officer on
Antigua which I plan to delete before starting a fresh set of Pirate newbies
1.
Ace Cutty - My cutthroat to provide muscle for
2.
Ace Bucky - The sinister buccaneer criminal mastermind behind the
Toruga
Oriental
Guards (
TOG) [The winner of the society naming poll].
If deleting my French holding character on Antigua does not let me start pirate, then I will probably have to wait until the round resets in 2 months time to formally lead a new society of TOG pirates.
As I will be starting from ground zero on Antigua, there is no way that I will have a 1000 doubloons to form a new society on day one.
But we can work towards that as well as running a contest to design our logo and ship livery. As a poor new society, we have no prizes, but you will have the honor of knowing that every TOG Pirate on Antigua is sailing under your artistic design and colours!
This Society is designed to be fun and flexible for anyone to jump in at any time and jump out for as long as they feel like it.
There are no grand plans beyond providing the opportunity for TOG players to level up new characters together.
Antigua is ill suited to Realm versus Realm battles, especially if you are a Pirate as its almost impossible to beat the nationals to the win because you can't keep captured ports like the nationals. Any port taken is ransacked but returned to the natioanl owner in 3 days time which returns them the 10 points you won beating them in a port battle.
1.b. I am not American and play on Roberts (European Peak Playing Time)
The style or Roberts means the player population is more balanced and a healthy rivalry is around enabling all factions to share in the excitement of trying to win the Realm versus Realm (RvR) strategic goal to claim Marks of Victory (provided your character is level 20+ and is the same faction as the victor).
I have surveyed the returning PotBS players and no one wants to make the commitment required to support a self contained Society economy.
Without such a system ship deeds and consumeables become expensive and often hard to obtain.
The minimum commitment is at least 10 regular people to provide the ship and outfitting and consumeables that a functioning society needs.
As we don't have the time or interest in setting up this infrastructure, we TOG will not be officially launching any
National faction on
Roberts in the foreseeable future.
1.c. If there is no TOG society on Roberts (European Peak Playing Time) what are my options.
Glad that you asked!
You are welcome to sign up to my old guild, which I will be returning to play as French on Roberts.
They also have a mirror image Spanish faction to allow for a swap of faction in the next round to shake up the powerplay alliances.
If you read my posts in our private forum, you will see I love the historical context of the English faction. Unfortunately, a lot of people think they can become the Next Aubrey/Hornblower/Nelson and opt to go English the first time they play.
The consequence is that there is a large number of PvE English players in a Society which weakens their ability to be a cohessive force in Port Battles which is essential for winning RvR.
Unless you are French or Spanish, the PvE population of these two factions is almost non-existance, so any players from these two factions likely belong to a society deliberately formed to provide that focus and commaraderie necessary to win the strategic game.
Visit our forums and check out my Posting of Les Condamnes (LC).
If you are happy to play french, then there is no problems signing up to LC.
The only thing they ask is that every few days when your structures fill up, you sell them at cost the surplus production.
Doing this at cost means you can buy ship deeds and outfittings and other consumeables (eg. Mast Braces, heavy round shot, etc.) at cost price.
Sounds like a good deal to me.
You get access to all the best stuff at the lowest possible price for doing a bit of econ that you would have to do anyway.
So no need to worry about organising a supply chain, just sell your stuff to the society and they have haulers to take your goods to our main shipyard Cayo de Marquis (Cayo for short).
In the initial weeks when this game launches around the start of December 2010, I expect to be busy on Roberts working on my French Privateer.
So focus on leveling up your Pirate following the story and career mission tress around marsh harbour and when you have the chance, log in to Teamspeak 3 and see if there is anyone around who wants to group up to do some ingame missions or pirate mayhem by blockading a port.
As its free to play, I expect TOG to gradually establish a major presence on both
Roberts and
Antigua.
So be patient as we await for the phoenix to rise from the ashes.
Note if you want to accelerate this timetable, then the best thing would be for you to volunteer to help run the society.
A competitive National faction economy requires ten committed players to cover all the roles, so until there are ten volunteers, don't expect to see a TOG national society on Roberts.
Les Condamnes (LC) is a non-TOG sanctioned Society that will contain many of the TOG players on Roberts.
Happy Sailing
Ace
Society Leader for the TOG Division of Pirates of the Burning sea.
