I've been having an absolute blast with this game. I subbed 2 days into the trial.
It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, it is pretty hardcore... But if you appreciate a challenge and a well thought out game that shows a lot of promise of even greater things to come, I really don't think you could do better than Mortal Online.
You do need to approach it with a sense of adventure though, as there is no hand-holding and precious little information, even at the very start.
Do not be embarassed to ask questions. Hook up with us in TS (We use the Wessex guild's Mumble server, but let us know and we'll pop in to TOG TS with you if you let us know you'll be on) if you're starting the trial and we'll help you avoid some of those painful mistakes we made in the early hours of our MO careers!!
Honestly, it's highly likely that you
WILL be frustrated with your first 10 minutes in MO, as everyone playing MMOs these days is conditioned to the directed experience that is the standard. But beyond that, you'll start to find the raw beauty, and more and more to love about it.
If anyone would like, you are welcome to read the rather long and meandering tale of my first few hours in the game. Note that the instability that plagued the early days of the trial are now well and truly gone.

Look. It even prompted me to create my first ever custom signature image. It MUST be good!
