PotBS Flag info HERE

A new game about to reach Beta has the facility for user submitted content to make it into the game. The game is called Pirates of the Burning Seas and is set in the 1700's Carribean. Users can submit Flag or Sail Emblem designs for inclusion into the game, those with 3D modeling skills can actually sumbit complete ships if they have the skills and time.

Here is a question I put on the game forums about hopefully submitting a flag using the TOG logo.

There is two things I would like to acheive from this thread.

1. That some of our talented members are made aware that they can get their creations in game.
2. The TOG guild in this game might be able to sail under the TOG logo.

I would feel so honoured sailing around ingame game with the TOG flag flying proudly over my stern with the emblem emblazoned across the main sail for the world to see. If this is not acheiveable due to trademarks and legal ownership problems, it would be almost as good to be able to say Yes That great flag was designer by "xxxx" one of our guild members.

I'm going to post this as a normal thread and PM Father requesting his comments on using the TOG logo or a version of it and asking him to then make it a Global announcement.

I do not have anywhere near the skills for any of this but if a TOG member got any content into the game I would use it with pride.

The way I have understood that custom flag issue is that once submitted anyone could use it..unless TOG was able to come to some sort of understanding with the makers of Pirates.

To the best of my knowledge users that submit content are able to restrict its use and if we were able to come up with a design close to the TOG symbol that suited the period it might not have appeal to players other than us.

I had thoughts of a cannon replacing the sniper scope version of the "O" but I have no talents in this field. Please bear in mind that we can't breach trademark as the game will own the rights to anything submitted.

In addition to a flag we can also have a sail texture, with the option of either having it scaled to fit the sail, tiled over the sail, or a decal in the centre of the sail.

Some ideas I've had:

Have three vertical stripes red, white, red (to match the colours of the TOG logo). Though that might look a bit too much like the Canadian and Peruvian flags.

Incorporate the word TOG into a coat of arms or similar device, and have that in the middle or the corner of the flag.

Just have a coat of arms, and simply use that as both the flag and sail decal.

Great ideas now we just need someone with talent to throw up a few designs that have a mass registration on their boards to vote it in.

Regardless of any trademark issues, my feeling is that the TOG logo isn't suited to PotBS. I think a modified logo, or even a whole new design that is more in theme with the game's 18th century setting would be better.

Maybe a good plan would be for some toggers to put together some concept designs and then vote on them. There's no hurry either, as the game is still several months from release, we could use an interim flag if there is a guild presence in the beta and then create an official flag before the game goes live.

Agreed Speedy and this is what Mormi mentioned above anyway I've spoken with the other admins and essentially the logo can be used by permission of the owners. Lineage 2 already used the TOG logo for their ingame cloaks/capes I think so this will be no issue here

I think all we need is to have a few guys make up a design. I recon we can make this into a TOG competition?

I would think the early we can get items submitted as the Devs have used to term "Code complete" as their milestone before Beta. So any submissions into the pipeline might take quite a bit of time to get into game as I think it vetting user content might / should take a low priority compared to fixing bugs and releasing the game.

One thing I am hoping is that being an online release only there should be no release day patch.
