Why do games use this? Runes of Magic use it and now so does Eligium. I hate it..the rotten thing downloads at a painful 60kb/s when I usually get 800-1200 kb/s. So very frustrating.

I dislike most downloaders with a passion. Especially ones tied to F2P games for some reason, as they almost always suck

Runes of Magic and Eligium are tied to the same accounts/distribution group, which I imagine why they both use the same system. While I did enjoy Runes of Magic for a while I have found Eligium to be somewhat horrible.

Is that the one that keeps running in the background, quietly sucking up your bandwidth unless you uninstall it?

Yes Zilch, many games use these type of downloaders. Turbine use Pandro Media Booster I believe which works the same. It does a great job when you are downloading the game but after the initial game has downloaded I don't think the actual patcher uses it? For the most part I just uninstall it once the game has been downloaded. Not sure if that will work here though ...
