Default MMO's, what's really next?

OK, so I've got active accounts on WoW and SWG...What's next...really?

I'm not convinced that SWG is going to last for me (or anyone for that matter) but WoW has renewed life for me since I changed the way I look at it.

I'm not very good and can't stay interested in something like Eve, I need a toon, not just a pic and a ship.

PotBS - might be cool, but do you do any land based activity? Or is it Eve on water?

DDO - um...we'll see.

Vanguard - gotta read up.

Age of Conan - this one just gets more and more exciting for me, being a HUGE Conan fan, it might very well be the one that takes me away from WoW. I spend a good deal of time in the forums there and have met some very cool gamers there (yes I pimp TOG at every chance) But, it's not coming out till April 06 at the earliest soooooo...

Dark and Light - From all of the reading on their site it seems like it'll be a blast, but until I see it I've got reservations about the graphics and the potential for rang rang gankathon farmers out the wazzu.

I'm just interested in what my fellow TOGers thoughts are.

How's that song go...?

"Love the one you're with, love the one you're with."

PotBS won't be out until next spring (at the earliest). Hasn't started closed beta yet.
Actually, the entire list of 'most anticipated' games at Mmorpg.com probably won't be on the shelves until next spring -- earliest.

(Dark and Light, RF Online, Pirates of the Burning Sea, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, The Chronicles of Spellborn, Dungeons & Dragons Online, Age of Conan)

Guess you're stuck with WoW Garain! (Even if it's a love-hate relationship with that game hehe). :P

If you can't be with the one you love....love the one you're with!

Yeah, it's not really being "stuck" with WoW anymore....really had a change of perspective recently that gave me a new outlook.

I'm anxiously awaiting DDO. It seems very well tuned twards my play schedule. I often only get half an hour to 2 hours of play time, and can't commit to the time constraints that most MMORPG's require. DDO developers have stated that they will have many small/quick quests that are possible to finish in 15-30 minutes. The totaly quest based xp system is right up my alley too. I hate grinding....

I think I'm alowed to state that I participated in their "stress test". It apeared to be fairly well aplied, and the gameplay was pretty simple. I only got to play for a few hours, si I only saw some of the newbie quests. I liked what I saw though....

I have been in on a beta for one of the previously metioned up and coming games. IMO, many of these games are not truely MMO's, but that is up for debate. If you have a few days to kill, read up on this thread and all of the links in includes. Be warned. This is a long thread!

I have actually had more fun reading up on VSoH (Vanguard: Saga of Heros) than I have playing any other game out there, including some betas!! I know that this game is not for everyone, but for me, it is everything I want in a game. As Jeff Bulter put it, it's the game they have always waited for and wanted to play. I have utmost faith in Brad McQuaid and co. to create the new standard for the future of MMO's.

All of my gaming resources are spent reading everything I can about this up and coming game. A new computer will be built next summer with this game in mind. I will be there on day one ( if not earlier ).

I have found that following game designers is more practical than following titles. Similar to following Mutual Fund manangers instead of Fund names, or Movie producers/directors rather than movie names.

As always, I really enjoy this communities insights to other games. It really keeps things fresh.

That's not a bad idea. There are designers out there that can really pull it off. Guys like Bill Roper, Sid Meier.... if they're hands-on with the game from start to finish, you KNOW it's going to be good.

http://www.ashentemper.com/
This is one of my favourite sites for game design sandbox discussions. Ashen Temper heads Wolfpack, creators of Shadowbane, and he's fairly frank when it comes to discussing the pros, cons, mistakes, dreams, etc. of game designing, and "his next game," whenever and whatever that might be.
Let's say Ashen Temper's next game is NOT Shadowbane2 like everyone believes it is.... whatever the project, he is going to attract a massive following from current and past Shadowbane players.

I just saw a couple of GoogleAds for some MMO's in the open testing stage. One was called Fly For Fun, which is being billed as "The first flying MMO".

Chronicle 4 in LineageII baybeeee!
come on, you know you guys want to feel more suffering in your MMO experience- these other new games just aren't gonna be able to take over your real life like L2 can, now will they?

I'm actually interested in DDO most out of the above mentioned... hope the finished product is up to par...

I've been playing The Saga of Ryzom on the trial account and seems pretty fun.

D&L wont be out for a couple of months still BUT Settlers of Ganareth, there free prequel to D&L, will be released this Thursday (Dec. 8th). They are giving out an additional 10,000 keys so be quick!
