Default So is anyone else playing D&L?

I finally managed to get in last night (Aussie time). While I'm not at all impressed, I have a rather high patience/pain threshold and am willing to see how it plays out (despite how painfully bad it is right now).

So is anyone else playing? Dark? Light? I have a character on light side, but with only an hour invested, I'm more than happy to swap to the dark side if that's where the guild is.

Lichbane keep in mind that SOG wont have alot of things that DNL will. I'm still waiting to play but there having alot of server/login issues. I'm not sure what the problem is. Hopefully they will sort it out soon.

Which is why I'm giving the game a lot of latitude at the moment.

One thing that DID impress me was the viewing distance though. Standing on top of one of the hills on the starting islands, you could see the mainland miles away (many many miles) and the snow capped mountains in the distance. Now THAT was cool. (as are the dragons .... I WANT ONE!!!!)

Fingers crossed this doesn't turn into another Horizons. All promise and nothing delivered.

I am still hopeful though.

They claim the horizon is like 50 miles away. I've got a Pioneer subscription, but I've yet to actually get in the game. I didn't finish the client download until the 13th, and the server has been down or not recognizing me (today), every time I've tried to log in. Maybe tomorrow.

But we should pick an alignment. What usually happens is we end up going the opposite alignment at launch. But it doesn't really matter. Let's just pick one and play it. Right now, the light seems to be the underdog, and it's slipping a bit. But I have no strong preference.

There was a post somewhere that there are three starter areas, and only two are PvP or something to taht effect. Is this implemented in SoG? Can all the same alignment players mix, and is the PvP turned on? Or has nobody got that far?

This is my understanding from what I've read, the layout of the overall map and what I've seen so far .... which isn't a whole lot really.

Each alignment starts on their own island. It's pretty damn big and apparently has level 19 critters on it (or so I'm told). You could be there for a while.

For there you travel to Al'Drifa ... the PvE kingdom. From the quickstart guide, a kingdom is a pretty big place: 3 Duchies, 15 Counties and 75 Baronies. It pretty much runs east/west through the SoG map.

North and south of Al'Drifa are the two PvP Kingdoms, Agnar and Ysatis. Same as Al'Drifa, they are pretty massive. In DnL, Light and Dark will start at the extreme north and south of the map, so I'd say that most Dark will gravitate to the north and most Light will gravitate to the south, so they have a better idea of the lay of the land then the full game comes out next year.

Apart from that, I have nothing more to tell .... I've only played for an hour, am almost level 4 and haven't explored too far. Combat needs a lot of work, graphics are sub-par (but I've only taken default so far and people say it's very nice if you boost up the options ... just the FPS sucks) and the interface and commands need a severe overhaul.

That said, it has potential and considering WoW was in beta for pretty much a year and had Blizzard's budget behind it, this is doing .... ok.

I played Shadowbane for a year in spite of all the exploits, and the constant farming, and the city wipes, and the crappy graphics, and the lack of mounts, and and and.

I like PvP games. I don't much care about the leveling dynamics, though if I have to farm, the combat has to be stomachable. But mostly I just want some good group PvP. That's what will make or break the game for me. However, I consider this to be beta, and release is still a good way off. So I'm not crying.

I can't get on though. It's saying my username is not recognized. I'm not sure if that's the authentication issue or an actual problem. Did the pioneer people have to do anything to get a subscription to SoG or is your account supposed to work as is? You guys using your forum name and password to log in to SoG?

If it doesn't get resolved and I can't figure it out in a day or two, I will shoot them an email. But no since bombarding them if it's a known issue. GIven that they are claiming authentication issues, and it's an authentication type problem, I'll wait until that's resolved before getting too overly concerned.

But anyway, I've yet to ever manage to log in to the game. I know Qyburn was on an hour at launch, but he's not made it back in since then either. As long as they get it ironed out by release, it's all good from my perspective though.

I'm not a pioneer, but there are quite a few on. I'm just using my forum username and password.

Server is starting to get better about staying up. I am finding I'm only getting 6-7 fps at best no matter what setting I use, if that doesnt improve I dont think I will be playing D&L.

Everybody has to go the same faction if we want to make a guild in this game. The requirement for a guild is 30 people, and we'll be hard pressed to get it. Those that don't go with the general concensus will be on their own. However, 6-7 fps isn't going to fly. The main reason there isn't a big push to get organized is it remains to be seen whether the game is worth playing.

I still can't get on. I'll give it another day or two then complain.
