Default New Steampunk MMO: City of Steam

Hello everyone,

First of all I would like to thank Ned who gave me the chance to post a thread here.

My name is Stephen. I work for a small developer, Mechanist Games. Currently, we are putting all our effort into debut title: City of Steam, which is a very accessible browser-based, industrial fantasy/steampunk MMORPG with loads of content and a unique world. You can check out City of Steam here. It's made by an indie developer, and despite being browser-based, thanks to Unity 3D it looks quite impressive. The world, for example, is a huge mechanism of gears and spokes, as seen below:

(To see this in full animation, see: http://www.cityofsteam.com/world/worldmachine )

For a better picture of the game, check our latest Closed Beta Trailer. A lot has been changed and improved since then, but it can still give a good idea for what we plan to make of our game:

This world is full of both magical and mechanical monstrosities, clockwork wonders (even dwarves are part-organic, part-mechanichal), and ripe for adventure. Expansive metropolitan cities built on years of neglect and abandon allow untold evils to thrive within the heart of its intricate networks of pipes, gears and towering spires. It is up to the new age of hardy adventurers to aid the Triumvirs, the local governing body, to rid and clean up the depths and heights of the city.

At the moment, the game is heading towards a beta release. So We really hope that you can join us by then!

Edit:

Hey everyone, thanks to your continuous support of our game, City of Steam has finally been approved on Valve's Greenlight approval system. We are thankful for everyone who voted for us and who spread the word! If you want to know more, you can find the full announcement here:

Finally, the moment we’ve been waiting for: a RELEASE DATE the highly-anticipated Beta version of City of Steam. For more test-related info, please read our official news post here:

http://cos.r2games.com/news/view/?id=1835

We may be small, but we're very receptive to player feedback too, and strive to openly discuss the development process. Feel free to drop me a line and I'll respond to any questions you may have!

Hey Dorian!

I am an alpha & beta supporter. Enjoyed testing/playing the game. Mechanist Games are some of the best Devs I've ever encountered online.

Looking forward to open beta. Been telling everyone I know about City of Steam!

See ya in the forums...

Looks and sounds interesting indeed.
The graphics are also really good for a browser based game.

I've given it a "thumbs up" on Steam Greenlight.
So yes, I would buy it and play it if became available there

Thanks for the upvote. We're really getting closer to Steam Greenlight now. Actually the game is a free-to-play browser MMO, you don't need to spend a penny for accessing the game when it comes out.

Thanks Dorian.

I have one question (for anyone who knows). I saw that the backgrounds included family member NPCs who accompany you. Are they purely there for background flavour/quest giving or can they be used as combat companions?

Family member NPCs are there to give you quests. Sometimes they will also act as a guide for your character but at least for now they're not engaging in combat. We might have some NPC's that fight with you in combat in the future though.
