Default Ashron's Call

Who here played AC1 or even AC2 ? what sever did you play on? i played both and i know ac2 is dead but i wonder how ac1 is doing? I miss that old game alot lol .
When i played ac 1 i played on Solclaim and i had 3 accounts but i played 2 guys the most.
Ac1
Jack be Nimble(lv 104 specd warmage)
MrBonk ( my little acher ..think i got him to 90)
Ac2
Diemitri(i forgot what lv ..allmost maxed is what i remember)he was a sorc
MrBonk ( i little lugain healer)

I was just thinking of those old games and thinking how much stuff was in those games to do and todays game force you to group together with large groups to get anything done...

I played AC2. I had Rigormortis as my main, a feral intendant, and about four other max level characters on Frostfell until they popped the cap. I never bothered to level much after that as I was already burned on the game.

I had a Lugian something or other on Darktide and one alt as well. I think the Darktide character was named Nightfist. But I forget the name of the class.

AC2 was a fun game. You can level solo like that in World of Warcraft until you hit 60. At that point though, if you want to keep playing, you will have to gear up, and that means you suddenly need to run everything in 40 man groups.

I like soloable games. Most people do. But for some reason, game devs can't understand that and want to make these intricate grouping requirements. I think it harks back to the origins of the D&D paper games where you couldn't play solo.

I hate non-solo games.

I love the grouping aspect - but I hate it enforced - maybe I've only got 1/2 hour and I want to get to the killing fields, and kill for that 1/2 hour.

AC1 was and maybe still is the only game that allowed this - my defense specced warrior or archer would use his recall last teleport and be in the matron hive to kill 10s of bugs (level6 loot table ones) at a time killing over 100 in 1/2 hour and get decent loot/salvage - or my mage hunts in Valley of Death for also great loot/xp.

Im in WoW at them moment - it's partly soloable after level 60 (its a great game prior to that) - generally takes ~10 minutes to get to a destination so the 1/2 killing isnt possible, but ok if you have an hour to spare to get 45 minutes of killing in - you'll will need another person to hunt the elites farmed in say Tyr's Hand for better loot oportunity.

I left AC about 2 months after WoW was released - I did the migrate to turbine billing but unsubbed after that for WoW. I also would hate to be without decal for autobuffing, loot alerts, arrow crafting amongst others (I understand Decal is now working with last expansion pack)

AC, IMHO, has the best loot generater and that the best loot was available to anyone (not just high end strict choreographed raiders).

Harvestgain server - main charaters (from memory) - Pemulwuy, L140 Mage (War&Critter spec) - Jake the Muss, L110 TankAxe - Canberra, L110, TankBow

I still follow the Harvestgain VNBoards (http://vnboards.ign.com/Harvestgain/b5154/) to see whats going on (mainly follow my old giuldmates there) and things still seem to be happening albeit with a reduced population (villas are still hot commodity although you'll probably not get much for them on ebay - thats an idea - did a seach on ebay, there's one MT villa for $80 - that's way down from the hey-day, but at least one is still there )
Maggies is also still alive (http://www.thejackcat.com/) - nice to know

Sometimes I find it tempting to go back - but then I think of the new Pirates MMORPG and Vanguard looks good .. and in the meantime, I'm liking WoW (mainly because of the great guildies that is TOG rather than the game)
As for Turbine games, alot of AC talent left after their offices moved back and forth between coasts - the other Turbine upcoming titles look very poor (DDO=enforced grouping) as far as I'm concerned.

I tend to agree Wrrlor, LadyChoy above has 5 posts, all exactly the same post, to public forums (as that person has not joined for access to non-public) - Im avoiding that link the plague (or virus/trojan).

Apologies in advance LadyChoy if you ever come back and this was not a hoax post.

EDIT: in case anyonw wonders what Wrrlor or I are talking about, the post immediately above Wrrlor's has been deleted by an admin

i agree, AC was my first big game to play. Being only able to only play a limited time AC was very good for jumping in and killing a ton of stuff in a short amount of time, (solo). I also miss the companionship of the people i played with, ToG people in wow are good, but it always seems like everyone is soooo busy that hanging around the preverbial lifestone is non existant.
I don't know how many days were spent just chattering, because you knew the next time you could go out and kill a bunch of monsters and be ok.

I still keep in touch with my monarchy on WE, but i fear for the worst due to falling numbers. alot of the older monarchies are having to team up just to have someone to play or talk with.

Yes decal has been active for sometime now, I may resubscribe but i doubt it. I only have time for one game at a time.

kind of sad though, i had a lvl 145 archer and a 130 trade mule.
No el tank involved either. my monarchy had a ban on combat.

I played AC off and on for about 5 years I loved that game

I stopped playing about a year ago now and just can't bring my self to log back in.

I had 4 toons over 100 but my main guys are on Winterebb
WarLoc lvl 160 or so Battle mage and Jc Denton lvl 150 Archer.

one of the things that kept me playing so long was the community that rascalwabbit was talking about and sitting around shooting the breeze for hours and then being able to solo when you had time and the ambition

I played WOW as well and it might have better graphics but it lacks that special element that a long term games need.

I don't know if its the sense of community or what but it just couldn't keep my interest after I hit 60

I am hoping Vanguard SOH is going to be my next long term game but we'll have to wait and see.

I started playing EQ2 to keep me busy until then.
I just created my first character his name is Othera on the Najena server.
Hope to see you there

I started AC the day it was released. Played for about 4 years. Tried AC2 for a little while, but it never quite worked for me. I loved being able to solo when I wanted or teaming when I wanted. I finally left when Turbine wouldn't do anything with all the combat bots...Several quests were hard to do because the bots were killing the toons before I could do the quest..

The bots are a big problem in L2 as well. It's one of the many reasons I am not so hot on the game--though I do log in and play occasionally out of desperation.

The point about WoW is a good one. The way it is setup with the quests, it's not a good social game. You can't just log in and group up and go kill mobs like you can in a lot of the older games. You have to be close in your level progression.

And the instances don't help either. They reduce social playing too. And if you are doing a 40-man, you gotta be on when it starts and dedicate four hours to it.

It seems like there should be some happy medium somewhere between WoW and the insane grind of an L2. But so far, I haven't found it. But I keep trying.

I miss AC2 in some ways though. The early days in any game always seem to be the best. Or maybe you just enjoy your first game more than the following ones.
