Default DaoC??

Anybody still playing Dark Age of Camelot? I may have missed a post about it but they've got a free trial and I figured why not.

Anyone have any take on this older but still fun looking game??

I really enjoyed the game. I enjoyed being able to go deeper into the dungeons as my level went up. Exploring ftw!

The problem is, its so old most people are playing rvr. They have different lvl caps. When you get to that lvl it is tough to do any exploring of those dungeons. I got to lvl 24 and could never find a group to go dungeon exploring after that for weeks.

daoc was and still is a good game and i spend a lot of time in.

but for a beginner now it's hard cause most of ppl are high level with huge stuff so you will be "under powered" in front of them.

the add on Trial Of Atlantis made me run out off this game (ok my family life also ) because of it's farming necessity to have a usefull toon.

but my brother and some friends of mine are still in and they seem to be well .

I kind of have mixed feelings about the game, kind of like I do about EQ.

The majority of my friends are in the ubber levels... I don't mind starting over, but the main problem with EQ is all the expansions that I would have to buy to be able to catch up with where people are. I know DaoC doesn't have that bad of a problem, but there are just so many other newer games out that I would rather spend my time in if I know I'm not gonna stick with it.

Good memories though!

I've started again after initially playing for ages when it first came out then leaving it for a couple or so years.

I too used the 14 day free trial, but on the euro servers, just to see how I felt - and I found I had really missed it, so I reactivated my US account a couple of days ago as that's where I played previously.
Everything was there as I remember, except for that there must have been some patch or whatever that adjusted characters because all of my toons now have no skills and a large pool of points each to spend - basically a free respec for all my old chars, which personally I thought was great. Just means I now need to trawl through the forums to see whats changed/been added etc so I don't accidentally gimp them.

Even caught up with some of my old buddies last night which was excellent. Just like old times. I for one will be sticking with this game now.

I think it's still fun to play, so many races/classes to choose from now, altitis sufferers unite

For info I'm Hib on Igraine and Mid on Merlin if you ever want a sparring partner. I have various toons of most levels, but always happy to roll a new one if needs be

IMO - DAOC WAS the greatest MMO of all times UNTIL the Bot issue became sooooo incredibly out of hand. The addition of TOA and ML's took it way out of my classification as a good MMO.

The first year or two were the greatest again IMO (in my opinion - as to not start a flame war with some ubered out ML'd TOA'd botted -nerf, this - nerf that... type player)

I really miss the old days of DAOC Darkness Falls came out - that was a nice touch. The dragon and reading the posts on the server / race / guild who came close to taking it down - then the successes built upon the former losses.
How about the SIT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was absolutely awesome! players from all guilds / servers entered pendragon and had a major sit out in hibernia at Tir Na Nog. no game playing - simply speeches etc.

BUT Mythic continued down the overly greedy route of endorsing buff bots and as time continued anyone who went to the new battlefields began to understand if the qty of players were about 50 well, it was safe to say there were prob only 25 real players as you stood in the keep looking at dozens of toons standing, doing nothing...
That is not the major adverse effect of bots - the larger scale came from those who were new, who wanted to join the great DAOC world... They were the true victims..

Well, Think my feeling of DAOC have been shared. Thankfully Blizzard understood the negative impact of bots and found it not necessary to FORCE a player to pay for TWO accounts simply to play ONE account equally...

I hope Mythic learned something about their blind eye endorsement of bots and warhammer follows a better path. Mythic sure as heck had the BASIC foundation for the best RvR (PvP) and I hear Warhammer is going to be all that! Sounds pretty fun.

I hate when you guys call 2-boxes bots. It confuses me. How in the Hell can you prevent someone from 2-boxing anyway?

You want to see a bot, go look at L2. Now they've got a freaking bot problem. By that I mean they have an ultra-sophisticated program that runs around playing for them killing mobs and whatever else while they are AFK. That's a bot.

2-box != bot

I am so down for Warhammer. I played WoW at launch to 60 twice on a PvP server, and it was damned fun. But pure PvE is...well...*yawn*, and now they want me to run these boring 40-man raids for months just to get decent gear so I can go back to having fun again. Ummm...no thanks. That's too high of a price to pay.

Here's hoping Warhammer has no instances...

It is not instances that are bad, but having to have so many people.

Every game is going to have to keep people paying every month by drawing high level content out, unfortunately.

I can't say that bots killed anything other than forced grouping. Bot users were never a match for the same number of toons played by active people. The power escalation and outmoding of newer players brought on by TOA certainly crushed the game Bring in the WoW juggernaught, and it's not hard to see where DAoC hit a wall of bad timings and a couple of experiments gone wrong.

I think I would still be playing DAoC today if my guild from those days hadn't fallen apart. Played WoW, beat WoW, and then the PvP "mini-game" theory crushed my hopes for that game. I've been craving RvR ever since!! As several people of Proudmoore are certainly tired of hearing me say

Blizzard's "solution" to bots was to create a solo player game with co-op options. Combine this with the huge benefit of scripted farm bots, and they have a huge problem with them. Add to this the need for a 50+ active raid alliance / guild to even access the game's end content, and I can't say Blizzard has found a solution to anything. At least DAoC MLs gave you a sense of accomplishment. 9 raids, and you were DONE. 9 Blizzard raids of the same size, and you have spent twice the time and barely started your first level of epic gear. And you get to keep doing the same raid over and over and over and over ad nauseum.

FYI, DAoC fan boi here, at 2 accounts, 5 50s, 4 ML10s, all RR3-5, LGM SC (pre-TOA), Alch and WC. WoW scarred from 3 level 60s + full roster of alts.
