I'm holding out really high hopes for this one and I've been following the development of the game since...well....like forever. It used to be called Middle Earth Online.

Its not going to be revolutionary by any means nor bring new elements to the MMOG genre. I am just a LOTR geek and the ability to play an MMOG based on LOTR amps me up.

But you are right; no evil races. I think...and I could be wrong, well I probably am, that you can control an enemy NPC. The reason I say this is because Turbine said a short while ago in an interview that they won't have PVP but they will be allowing ppl to play as an enemy or evil race or something - its been a while and I sorta forget.

Anyway, I had a love/hate relationship with AC2, sad to see it go - but from the trailers and screen grabs LOTRO looks like it will be AC2 set in Middle Earth. Which is good enough for me.

I can certainly see a fan base wanting to play this game for the lore, but I'm pretty skeptical. No evil races? Everybody is finally going to just get along

I'm sure this title will have a niche of some kind, but my money is still on WAR making the big splash next. Waaaaaaaaaaggh!!!!

Mentioning the Ringbearer kind of scares me. If Turbine even faintly change the mythos/lore, you can be damn sure the LOTR community will rip them a new one ....

I kind of wished they'd set it in the first age where they can do the least damage possible to the setting.

The game takes place once Frodo and Sam leave the Shire. And as a player you are kind of involved in the stuff going on in and around the Fellowship but not part of it. But they claim that you will cross paths with Aragorn, Frodo, Gandalf, etc.

I agree though, the community won't allow them to take any liberties. Already the hardcore fans point out everything that may not be within the realm of JRR Tolkiens works.

Well, the movies survived the fanatical element, the game will have to do so as well. How many times did we have to listen how Tom Bombadil and the barrows were missing? Or the changes made for Helm's Deep?

Without PvP, the community does promise to be a bit smaller and tamer than the monsters out there today, but also less volatile I suspect. Only time will tell. They just better not stink at launch, or they might as well not open at all

It looks like they are using the DDO engine ... if that gives you a hint.
