Default Anyone still play the original EverQuest?

Sorry if this has already been discussed in the past, but I'm just curious to see if there are any EQ1 players still out there?

I played some Shards of Dalaya but as it's not hosted by SOE it's a little suspect. On the other hand their server is actively monitored by admins and they make frequent adjustments to it while the original EQ1 is basically rotting. The zones are connected differently in SoD and the races interact differently as well. I tried logging into the old EQ Solusek Ro server (now Bristlebane) to look around and found that hardly anything had changed and what had was stuff that didn't need changing (for example Nektulos has been replaced).

Hi Guys,

Have you heard of the new EQ Progression Server, the server title is called: "The Combine".

Quote:
WHAT: Sony Online Entertainment is giving EverQuest players both new and old a chance to experience the largest persistent world as it was in the very beginning by launching “The Combine” Progression server. The Progression server will consist of the EverQuest zones in Antonica, Faydwer and Odus that were available at launch back in 1999. Players will work together to level and conquer key content that will in turn progressively unlock every expansion released for EverQuest since 1999 up through Prophecy of Ro. Players must have the EverQuest base game to begin the progression and must have purchased the software for each expansion pack they are trying to unlock.
This press release came out on May 5th 2006.

Hmm... the progression thing appeals to me since I've always kicked myself over missing out on EQ's earlier days and never really getting into it. I managed to scrape together a level 38 Paladin around the Planes of Power era over the course of 2 years or so on and off.

Over the last few months I seem to have gone off the new games and have had the strangest urge to play it again... even after I've been back in the game and experienced the dodginess of a patched up 7 year old game where hours and hours of mindless grinding is the key to success.

I need help! :P

Right there with you Wonky... I was in the original game and played upto WOW / EQ2 came out. I actually meet Anisha (wife) in POK for the first time, so the game has history for the both of us.

The majority of her friends are still VERY active in EQ1, and we've been tossing around the idea of turning our accounts back on for about a month or two now. It's just with all the games that we play now, we can't seem to find the time to throw another one into the mix.

Not to mention all the expansions that we would need to buy. I think I own atleast 3 copies of the original, 1 going upto Frogloks, and 1 that goes upto POK. Atleast 3-4 accounts floating out there that I can't remember the names of, and SOE not wanting to help me locate them even though I have the case / number / and even store receipt!

Don't get me wrong, I love the game... I used to be a guide, and so was the wife... I just don't think I could deal with SOE anymore.

One of the new guys in the barracks plays actively as well, so you may be able to hook up with some people on that new server.

Why did we get rid of the EQ1 forum? Did it die out that much?

Never had one actually. SWG was the first MMO forum.
