Default Project:Entropia (Entropia Universe) thread

hallo guys,

I`ve been wondering is any of you guys have played PE ?
It has a bit different edge that the other games (it`s free, but the game`s ecomomy is connected with the real cash)

I tryed that game, and it seemed really nice. At least whole differant from the other mmo`s i have played.
You buy guns, ammo and repair weppons for real cash to take down mobs, that drop real cash with loot as well (so kinda casino effect).
The tops wepppons there cost more that 10,000 USD ($) and the armom and the best first aid kits can be up to 8,000 USD, and ppl do buy these things, so it seems kinda bit sacry in the beginning. But to just try the game out, and have the feeling of the game, 10 USD if enough by far, just to try the game out.

SO, are there any of you guys down there?

P.S.And for thoes that stil wondering about the game: i`t s free to play, so it you just want to check it out and run arround, it costs nothing to try it out

Hi Pitbully,

Not to overly color Project Entropia (Entropia Universe) in a negative light. I followed their community for nearly 3 years and for 6 months or so had a news portal for the game as part of a larger game news network. I was in the games Phase 2 & 3 closed beta, and in the Open Beta phase 4 into a short period during Gold.

The vision of the game is outstanding as it's breaking new ground as we speak. But the chief management ala CEO Jan Welter Timkrans acts more like an egghead to be polite. I had many developer contacts before they went bankrupt the first time due to an underwriter insurance company went insolvent.

The biggest woe to the community is the veterans in the game community depend on new blood. Sorta like a ponzi scheme to inject new monies into the game. The few veterans that stick with the game after large & smart investments make out well.

The newcomers get burned out more so in the wallet which causes a large turnover. With only a new generation of new comers to replace them. That's what has been occuring for the last couple of years.

The game has more money sinks with a stringent item decay than money fountains such as sweat gathering to name one.

The game software is free, but if your not disciplined with your personal spending. You'll be plucking down more than your typical monthly subscription fee's for other MMORPG's.

Yes i completely agree with you on the side of Veterans beeing well off, and that the new comming ppl need to spend large ammounts of money to be able to keep going.

I know personally a few guys form Latvia, that are there for 3 years now, and actually by working as a tight team, they have managed to be one of the most rated socity in the universe, and they managed to do so with investment on arround 100 - 150 $ each.
I do understand, that 3 years ago it was a different game and maybe it was more easely done back then, but the thing i want to tell here: one can slowly increse through the game if it`s done with planning, startegy, and some money.
(another way is just to dump a few thousand of $$$ in the game and just play with ease.)

I think that the game will continue to expand and become more popular (bigger player base), so there might be some futuer in it.

The whole point is not to think of the game as "ouh, if i invest 10 $ then why dont i profint in the 1st week of playing?" If one plays the game to become ultemetly rich, it`s the wrong attitude. (and i think that that`s the main reason that new ppl burn too much money there)

That's probably the best attitude to have if your not into the RL money making aspect of the game.

I still follow the news of the game and the community sorta. Recently i heard "NeverDie" got married in RL in Miami and in EU at the same time. Perhaps setting another guiness book of world record. He's the bloke who paid in RL $100,000 US for that asteroid floating around the planet.

I only know of some of the older Societies in-game like: Solider of Fortune, Sterling & Moss, and Imperial Dreams.

I can also probably say that Marco Brahmen doesn't like me very much either, lol. I gave freely a couple of years ago to "Entropia Pioneers" my archive of historical stuff on PE. My collection is on their "PE History" forum board.

I recently downloaded the game client again to try to get a copy of the Print Magazine. But, i'm procastinating from logging in and start playing again. Although i miss those game world vista's, and i would probably have to go on foot and add all those teleporter pads to my toon map again. Ugh.

I played PE for a few months about a year ago.
Because they sell in game money for Rl cash. I found the game cash system to be very negative.

Everything has a high decay rate, and costs lots repair it, for example.

If you go hunting, usually the bullets cost more than you make from the hunting. And then you still have armour repairs and gun repairs.

And if you want to take the cheap way out and buy a dagger.
It decays at a high rate, so the repairs to the dagger cost more than you made from hunting.

I found it to be a very large cash sink. And for any reasonable play, it ended up alot more expensive that paying a $10-20 a month subscriptiong on one of the other games. About the only thing you can do without loosing alot of money, is to suck the sweat form animals while your naked. but that gets boring quickly.

I wouldn't even play on one of SOE's exchange servers. I certainly wouldn't play a game like PE where game $=RL $.

I tried this right before WoW went live. Didn't care for it but occassionly I read the news articles and shake my head at how much real cash people spend.

Back in March of this year I gave it another shot and realized it is still not a "Newb" friendly game unless you want to invest real money.

I just downloaded the client and invested 10.00 us into my toons wallet. So far as mention above the game is great but man the decay, repairs ECT are worse than my wife and daughter at the mall!!!!!!!!

Hello Constatine,

I was wondering who bumped this 2 year old thread up from the ashes.

Entropia Universe, seems to be humming along. Last i heard is that the Chinese will open up additional planets of the game. Where they can link up with the original planet everyone is presently enjoying.

Still what i said 2 years ago seems to be holding up as true. Aka a ponzi scheme of subsequent generations of new comers benefit more the veterans of the game and the developer itself. Since i read the forums of sites like MMORPG.com and hear numerous testimonials on the topic.

I still think the game model is fascinating, but not in the way that Mind Ark (the game developer) is executing the vision of it.

Definately can be a cash sink, I have spent so far only $10US but that was after my first 1000 sweat to get 6 ped and trying weapons which was a mistake. so even though I have pistol, carbine and engloves and I did find 700 light rounds in loot, the decay rate is attrocious. Paid 17 ped for englove and regularly pay about 6 ped to repair it. Loot in no way is enough to cover this so I sweat first, then kill it when it attacks. Am trying not to spend another $10US but might be awhile until i can figure out best economical way of progressing.

Havent written it off yet but dont think the outlay early on is worth it. To me it's like one of those time share appartment or pyramid schemes, though it can be addictive to play, try your best to minimise pay.
