Heyla Glargh!

Welcome to TOG. Guild Wars is a nice game. Very easy to get into and it doesn't have the big time and money committment that World of Warcraft has. The price of Guild Wars is a one-off cost. There is no on-going fee to play on-line. So that too is very nice. Come check out our division:
http://www.theoldergamers.com/forum/...splay.php?f=47

We have a very busy North American guild and a slightly quieter Australian/European guild. You are free to join either guild or simply frequent our forums and join a non-TOG guild. It's your choice =).

With Nightfall coming out on October the 27th I expect we'll all shortly be very busy starting off new characters for that stand-alone chapter of Guild Wars. If you plan on buying Nightfall now is a great time to start. That said, we have people in both guilds who only have Factions or the original GW game of Prophecies, so you will find people to play with no matter which chapter of Guild Wars you get. All the chapters can be bought and played separately. There is no need to buy the original. If you do buy more than one, the chapters can be linked so all your characters can access each different chapter.

Anyway, now that I've probably bored your socks off with all this stuff you probably already know, I wish you great fun in playing GW! I hope we see you in our forums some time =)

Oh, and P.S. we have people of all ages (over 25 obviously *grin*), fast and slow players, new and old. So no matter what you enjoy you'll find friends to play with.

Glargh,

It's really up to you. I guess that after October 27 most people will be playing more Nightfall than anything else. The general consensus is that Factions, while good, isn't as good as Prophecies (the original) and will probably be inferior to Nightfall as well. Factions is probably the faster chapter to get through but the storyline, quests and missions just aren't as interesting as the ones in Prophecies.

The beta for Nightfall was this weekend and most people seem to have a good opinion of what was in the beta. Have a look in our forums if you want to see what people thought of the beta of Nightfall. No doubt there will be several threads that will pop up on the subject after this weekend.

Prophecies is the slowest of the games. As such, it probably teaches you how to play best as you have time to assimilate everything around you. It has a good storyline, great missions and quests, some wonderful challenge areas and is probably the best value in terms of how long you can play it without getting bored. Nightfall may prove to be equally good in terms of Player vs Environment (PvE) play but we won't really know till it comes out.

It really comes down to choosing whether you want to play with the majority of guildmates, who will probably be getting their teeth stuck into Nightfall when it comes out, or going for the oldie but goodie Prophecies chapter. Both should be good.

Anyway, come and visit us in the GW forums and you'll get more than just my biased opinion for your posts =).

I'd agree with that assessment. I have both Prophecies and Factions, and played the beta-weekend for Nightfall. Prophecies was a very good RPG, solo'able game-style. Factions seems to play more like a not-so-solo friendly, tons-o-monsters romp, kinda felt like Hell Mode Diablo2:LoD to me - I never even got to the Jade Sea, but I hear it's nice, hehe. The beta for Nightfall remided me more of Prophesies, a bit more laid-back and nice RPG questing etc. I'm really looking forward to Nightfall.

If you really get into the game, you'll probably end up will all chapters, since each chapter has unique skills that all the classes can learn. For example, A Necromancer can capture the "Flesh Golum" skill from a Factions only boos mob. And Well of Power can only be captured in Prophecies, and I'm sure Nightfall will have another "must have" type skill.

However using the new store you can pay a little extra to get extra character slots or unlock all the skills from prophecies (I assume thats for PvP).

Whilst the prophecies has a better story - its harder to find people to make groups now.

Also Factions is better looking and fixes some of the irritations people had with prophecies

hm...that's a tough one Glargh. As far as I know most of the people in the Oz/Euro guild are probably between their mid-twenties to late forties with a few exceptions. However, I have no idea what sort of age group range there is in the North American guild. It's probably similar to that of the Oz/Euro guild.

I'm starting to get the feeling that I'd be considered too much of a whipper snapper to be played with! *grin*- just kidding...but at 29 I can't match your age and wisdom, lol.
