Confused
Default Hellgate London

I started playing multiplayer games (BF2) only last year and I've been experiencing some problems with ping rates and FPS skills (e.g., the need for faster PCs, bigger and better monitors, etc., to move and shoot faster). I've never played multiplayer games with storylines or quests like Guild Wars, but I know what they look like. I've been looking for such a game, but with a post-apocalyptic setting, enough fantasy elements (so that new features can be added) and less reliance on quick hand-eye coordination like those of FPS; i.e., something with a story, character development, cooperation with other adventurers, development of character skills, and some FPS that allows leeway for players who have weaker PCs or higher ping rates.

I was hoping that some companies will release something like Fallout/Fallout 2, and I've been looking at games like Stalker, Omega, etc., but I wonder if Hellgate London will fit the bill. On top of meeting many of the features above, I heard that it won't have a monthly fee.

Although I enjoyed playing single-player games like Ultima, Neverwinter Nights, and others, I'd like something that's more gritty (hence, post-apocalyptic), probably something similar to Vampire the Masquerade.

Is anyone planning to play Hellgate London? Is it possible that new mods will be added to it (like new characters or NPCs, settings, etc.) if it is successful?

Have not heard of Hellgate London before, nice to see new titles.

In terms of post-apocalyptic themes, the ones that are already released that I know of are Neocron and Auto Assault. Other future releases include Fallen Earth , maybe Huxley could be included as well.

I wasn't aware that Hellgate:London was a mmorpg. And I thought I was following it As an mmorpg slaying demons with hightech and magic, it has a certain groovy appeal.

btw see the CGI trailers link in my sig for the two available CGI movies from Hellgate:London. Pretty awesome animation imo

Ahh its not an mmorpg... single player with multiplayer options. Like Diablo.

Sorry, I didn't read the description of the game carefully! I thought the features for the RPG applied to multiplayer. I'm looking forward to playing MMORPG because I haven't tried it, but I'd like one with a post-apocalyptic setting (a la Fallout) and that runs like an adventure MMORPG that does not emphasize much on FPS skills but character development, strategy, etc.

The games that were mentioned look fascinating. I've only tried Anarchy Online (which is a bit post-apocalyptic) but I think I was trying an early version. I was going to try Auto Assault but read mixed reviews about it. I liked Half-Life 2 and wonder if they will ever come up with an MMORPG that uses similar settings.

For now, I'll give Neocron a go. I just hope I can live with the monthly rate. If anyone finds information about other games, please let me know. More important, if anyone plays any of these games, let me know as well. Finally, is it possible to change the subject thread to "Post-Apocalyptic MMORPGs"?

I played Auto Assualt a bit in beta, was a bit empty then and could only play it at certain times. Have not tried it after release. Anarchy Online was my first MMORPG, had fun with it for quite a bit. There are plenty of players playing the free option nowadays I believe.

Tried Neocron a long time ago, did not quite like the controls then - felt a bit awkward. It is also a bit more FPS style controls in that you have to aim and such.

On the subject of the subject, might as well start a new thread I guess

Can you say Tabula Rasa? - www.playtr.com

Its not out yet but its in internal testing - got some good showing and reviews at E3 this year and I am guessing Mid next year it should be out.

- Its set futuristic battlefield - post Earth being trashed by advanced aliens (Bane) so it fits the apocalyptic feel you want.

- Its a Sci-fi RPG with a FPS feel not a FPS. This means its not twitch based combat so you dont need great hand-eye co-ordination.

- It has a auto-lock when you target near an enemy. Damage is determined by your skill with that weapon and a few other factors.

- Classes are tiered - so you start as a recruit - choose a class at level 10, then a specialization at level 25 then another at ??? level which we dont know yet.

- Richard Garriott is the designer (Ultima RPG game fame). He has quite a name for story telling in the industry.

- They will have three different planets for release. There is talk they may release additional planets as free content, but thats not confirmed.

- No vehicles at release - other than drop-ships. Vehicles may be added as an expansion - but again not confirmed.

- PvE is the main part of the game.

- They will have common battlefields where everyone can get into the action,

- They have instanced missions for story telling. Missions are supposed to have a temporary effect on the main battlefield - like knocking out a forcefield.

- It has logos powers (think sci-fi spells)

- They have a cloning system - so if you want to try a different class you dont need to start the game from scratch you just grab your clone from a branch point select the different class and go.

- They will have various weapons with different ammo types - kinda like Hellgate London.

- Yes there will be a monthly fee - dont know the amount yet.

I think this game sounds a lot like you are looking for. Two good fan sites are:

They have started doing competitions to win Beta slots so I suggest you check the official and fan sites and see what you think

I'm keeping an eye on TR. It seems a bit too good to be true, but you never know...

They just did a radio interview that isnt up anywhere yet but some interesting things got mentioned.

- The sticky cross-hair is adjustable so if people want a more FPS type feel they can turn down the stickiness.

- There will be some missions with ethical choices, ie do you sell those drugs you recovered for cash, or give them to the dying people that cant pay. And some actions will have consequences.

If your looking for a good MP game then you should head over to Warrock and check it out. I would say Warrock is probably the best FPS out on the market as we speak.

One its completely online, two right now at least its free, three its fast action however once they add in every thing else its going to be one of the most tactical games out there.

I've tried every FPS from BF to American Army and all are very harsh and not much fun to play unless you are really really good at them. With Warrock its simple and easy and even the worse FPS type player can step in to Warrock and be half way decent.

I would highly recommend checking it out. There is one catch sort of, when game is released there will be two ways to gain some of the better weapons, one is through earn dinar (which you can do if you just go with one weapon) or you can use real life money to buy weapons.

I personally hate all most all FPS cause im at the mercy of those players who been playing FPS sense they were sperm. There very unforgiving and really hard to develope and get good at. There is also the fact that almost all the FPS require you to have a high end system, fact right now other then Warrock I can't run any of the FPS out on the market because Im on a Geforce 4 still. However Warrock runs perfectly on my PC.

So go check it out, right now its free to play, you will have to use Dinar to get the higher end weapons and if you dont go for more then one you can earn enough dinar from month to month to keep that weapon.

I just wish TOG would get in to Warrock, would be nice to get a squad going. The clan wars are going to make every thing out there look like a joke, at least thats what my instincts are telling me, which are very rarely wrong. Any way to check it out. Here is link
