After mentioning paradroid in another thread, I noticed that a lot of people had indeed both played and enjoyed this great game back in 'the day'. I went looking and lo and behold there is a remake of it.

Paradroid history
The classic Paradroid appeared 1985 on the Commodore 64. It was developed by Andrew Braybrook of Graftgold and published by Hewson. At the time a development blogg was being written by Andrew for the ZZap64 magazine and we all waited patiently for it to be released.
The game did not disappoint and even now some 21 years later, it still has an addictive "play again" quality.
The inclusion of the "takeover" screen was an innovation to the common shoot-em ups of the time and brought a depth to the game. Not only did you have to run around the decks shooting enemy droids, but also use a bit of brainpower to win the tactical "takeover" screen.

The download is about 12mb and has an online high score table:

We decided to keep faithful to the original game by keeping its top down view, rather than 3D. The GFX have been given a complete overhaul but SFX are taken directly from the original. Damage and energy calculations are based on the C64 version but have been tweaked to give an even more enjoyable gameplay.
As with most of our remakes, we have included an online score table which keeps the top 100 scores for you to beat. After obtaining a hiscore, you are given the option to upload you score to our web server. Only the game score and your entered name is uploaded to the server and only does so if you request to upload.

Anyway thought some may be interested in a trip down memory lane. I am currently downloading and plan on giving it a go a bit later.
