Default Who Remembers DOOM!!...

Well how many remember cutting there FPS teeth on the Classic Game DOOM

Think it was one of the first FPS games that had the *cough* 3D feel....I remember playing it with a work mate of the time....over a modem I think....shit that was a while ago...lol

hard to believe theres still peeps mucking around with the game engine/source code....

Great game at the time.....shows how much we have been spoiled with todays gaming...

Cheers

Yeah, first for me was wolf3d but as soon as a friend gave me a copy of doom I was there and didn't leave till well after doom 2 and well into the quake era.

I am curious to know if there is anything like the HR pack for Duke3D for doom/doom2 as that would be even more reason to pick it up again and organize some lan over ip games for it hehehe.

But yes I agree, everything since then has been a step forward.. even if only graphically.

Ah yes Doom... on all, count em, all 3 floppy's.
And a forth one with the 666 patch file.
Ran that on a matrox 200 with two, was it 3DFX? cards with 12 meg on each.
Thought that was the best thing ever at 800x600.
Just look at those graphics! Can you believe how good they are?
LoL

Not only do I remember Doom but have been playing it and Doom II again recently. I use GZDoom to play it on XP. It uses OpenGL and requires the wad from the original game.

Wouldn't mind the hi res pak...do you wanna post or PM a linky...*plz

I used to play it with the kids...using a null modem cable and with a mate over a modem....It would be interesting to see if it could be done...If so I could set up a server?

Wonder what the possibility's are for DOOM and Internet play....any Ideas fellas?...

Basically Hamachi is a Virtual Private Network (VPN) application that allows uses in a private netowkr created through it, to connect to each other via the internet as thought it were a lan connection.

So essentially once users are on their own hamachi network all you do is someone hosts a game and the rest use the hamachi ip address as the address to connect to. Using normal ip format of 5.*.*.* of course.

I successfully used it to connect to another persons Counterstrike Source lan game yesterday.

So the same concept applies to doom with the only limitation being that, I think doom only supports 4 players as oposed to dukes 8.. i think.

Should run the wad file of doom/doom2/ultimate doom etc etc.

As long as they are the original and unmodified versions then yes.
