Bubble Bobble, best game hands down. Great replayability and just plain fun, 1 or 2 players! Only the Original Arcade is good though, there has never been a really top notch remake since the original coders lost the source code : ) Though, i did grow up on the C64 version which is pretty good!

Super Metroid (SNES) gets an honourable mention

Best PC game ever - X-Com UFO Defense (1993) (come on, you know it's true)

Best Console game ever - Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain (1996)

You also have to take into account the technoolgy of the time and what other games were doing. These were revolutionary at the time they released.

Space Hulk Interesting RTS/FPS combo and the environmentals were astounding, very scary and fast combat.

Thumbs up In retrospect

What a great thread. I could talk for hours around about games of 'yesteryear'

Fave arcade game of all time is Robotron (the only game I remember having two joysticks). A friend and I played for 6 hours straight for 10p and we were subsequently barred from the game! ...fond memories

Enjoyed many other arcade games including 1942, dig dug, gorf, star wars, fast freddy, galaga. I was hopeless at games such as defender and stargate. Too many buttons

The greatest game or rather franchise series is Final Fantasy. Hands down.

old xt pc strat gams

for me its, Lords of Conquest or Defender of the Crown.

the jousting in defender was way ahead of its time. u can get these games though abandonware and use dosbox

a high mention is King Of Chicargo.

but seriously have a look at defender of the crown with its first person jousting
