When the first time I was playing minecraft I got scared because I donít that at night monsters come out, and we should build a shelter before that happens. Anyhow that scene made me thrilling to play.

Quake
It was dark. All of a sudden I heard a growl that sounded like it was in the room with me. I knew it was the game, but still had to look over my shoulder (just to make sure). Some of the sound effects were very realistic.

This wasn't scary, but startling. Recently, in Lotro:
An RK and her (non)protector, near the end of Storm on Methedras, the hut falls apart and out jumps . How am I gonna kill that!?!

Lightning is good.

I think the first game for me was Resident Evil on the PS1 when the zombie thing bursts through the window near the start, Silent Hill was just plain scary and wrong.

Doom 3 I refused to play once the lights went out and stuff starts to jump out...

Dead Space.... Just no!.

Probably the biggest scare was from Fatal Frame on the PS2 (Project Zero in the UK), I still refuse to play anything from the FF franchise, those fricking games... For those who dont know them, you are made to walk around a spooky haunted house with a camera to 'capture' the souls of the ghosts.... HOW ABOUT NO!.

The original Deus Ex.

The parts where that voice comes out of nowhere and says "I know where you are" and "open the box" and so on throughout the game. That is so creepy.

Doom, without a doubt. I remember being freaked out a couple of times when I'm in a dark passageway in an area I'm sure I've already cleared.. can't see much in any direction and then behind me I hear the growl of an Imp spotting me.. ><

I have to say the original Quake, playing late a night in the dark if often made me jump. Doom 3 had the same effect.

first game that ever had me make a scared reaction to it, was in Resident Evil ! when those dogs burst through the window in that dark corridor. I nearly dropped the controller. Never had that happen before in a game

Wolfenstein: Spear Of Destiny.

Some really gory macabre visuals in that game.'

I think it was one of the first games I played with SoundBlaster, too. That would've helped.
