Might want to take another look on the list for for Nethack. :P

played 40 of them... this list is invalid without Bard's Tale, however.

Nice post, definite nostalgia!

I've played 91 of 100 listed.

Furthermore, I still have access to most of them (around 70 or so)

Ancient Domains kept me busy hours and hours on end!

Also, Vikings and Vikiings needed to be on there.
Heck, there are so many special games that can be added onto that list that was true gaming artworks, but I guess once you start you can't stop, which is why it needs a cap at 100

Strongly disagree with all those games not being worth the time to go back to, or even to start afresh. Individual cases may vary, but i've finished System Shock twice in the last 4 years, along with UFO: Enemy Unknown, Master of Magic, and several of the Wing Commander series. They're still great.

IMO Master of Magic was waaay better than Civilisation, and System Shock remains far, far superior to Bioshock. All Bioshock has is the visuals, and even then...

EDIT: gonna count up and give a score soon

EDIT: 47 - not too shabby. But i kinda wish we'd had the net so we could disseminate information better

I do know that Beneath a steel sky is free if you sign up to Good old games - GOG.

I think some of these can actually be picked up from
Home of the Underdogs

They have license-released oldies there, or at the very least links to where you can get a golden oldie if it's still under license.

Rgr to underdogs. There used to be a ton of abandonware sites around, though most of them have closed down now.

GOG is great because while you may have to pay a smidgen, they supply a working dosbox config. All you have to do it click the launch icon and play the game, with working sound etc. And if you're so inclined the config files are pretty easy to edit.

+1 for Master of Magic over Civ.
Real-time 3D battles and the fact that it was essentially the same game, minus the historical stuff and add some magic and fantasy. The ability to customise your wizard and magic to your play style was so good too.
I still play regularly.
