I wont post links or a review here, but I've seen older titles like Command and Conquer and Red Alert being made available for free... great RTS's, and really very much the foundation of the modern ones we see today.

Not aware of any freeby new ones though.

I haven't as yet... my "to-do" list is rather extensive... I do want to explore this genre though, I've only played a very small amount of Company of Heroes as a taste. I haven't decided on the free RTS I want to test run. It won't be WWII themed, I need a different theme for this one.

What I have decided on is what paid RTS to play. This is a game called Demigod. It's on my shelf and ready to go. All I need is time (and lots of it atm!).

Yeah, I played the demo, and it looks pretty good, even if the AI for movement seems to be illogical. (Check out the number plates on the jeeps for a cheap laugh at EA)

I can't imagine where you'd find the time. I'm sure you don't sleep in order to get as much done as you do.

Battleforge is a lot of fun. RTS, Tower Defense, Magic the Gathering hybrid. It's free to play with the option to purchase booster packs of cards. The prices come out to about 1USD for 100 points and it's 250 points for a pack, but 4 packs for 900 including all kinds of bonus stuff.

I've been playing it a few hours every couple of days and while I haven't purchased anything for it I will likely be buying a 4pack (called a Tome) when I play this weekend.

A few players have advised agasint buying too many tomes. The census is it's best to buy 1 or 2 at most then sell the cards you don't need, trade them, or purchase others individually from the BF Auction feature. Personally, I have no experiance with auctions yet.

Don't forget to save some time in a month or two for Starcraft 2.
