Anyone playing Anno 2070?

I've recently started playing Anno 2070, and keep finding things that I can't quite work out how to do. I've got the general idea of what to do, but, for example, I can't work out the trade routes - I've made one but it isn't satisfactory according to the campaign.

Would be great to chat about the game if anyone else is playing.

I have been playing Anno 2070 and enjoy it. It's has a steep learning curve, but after you go past it, it's fun.

I bought it when it was on special recently and am really starting to enjoy it (totally solo play so far, and not sure I will ever play it MP).
The help system is horrible. I keep looking for a "Civilopedia" because even the most basic things are difficult to figure out. Civilisation gave you everything you need and flavor information as well.

I got given a mission to 'find an engineer' in my city to help out on of the factions. Failed it entirely. I thought maybe that when my city got to higher status levels you might get specialists of that name but that isn't it at all. I have since gotten two more of these missions and it turns out it is actually being litteral.
You have to zoom in on your town, and look around. You will eventually see a person walking around with a bit of a coloured outline. Click on the person and the 'engineer/architect/policeman/whatever' will be 'found' and placed into your depot as a tradeable item.
How was I meant to figure that out? (google is the answer...)

In answer to your trade routes question, there are a few things that got me stuck on that one.
My first problem was getting my red/green options backwards. You need to make sure you have your trade source set to take the items from the depot and onto the boat. Without having the game running in front of me I am not sure of the terminology. I think it was Green for my source island, and Red for the destination island.
Which ever way it is, I had it backwards. I think the trick is that it is described from the boats point of view. Green = boat takes items out of depot, filling its cargo. Red = boat empties its cargo and puts it into a depot. (note that I could be backwards with this description....Hover the cursor over the buttons are read it really carefully!)
Another problem I had with trade routes is that once created and a boat assigned to the trade route, you can still give that boat orders. That will interupt it from doing that route and I could not figure out how to get it started again. Well you do that by going back into the trade screen and there will be a small pause/play button you can press. If it is showing as the two vertical lines II then the ship is not presently working the route. Press it once and it will change to the triangle > sign and you will see the ship resuming its repetition of the trading path.
I have found this useful when you put more then one ship on the route early in the game when you don't have a requirement for multiple routes. Both can be ferrying goods and I can grab one to go do what ever I need from the map. Once complete I just go back in here and tell it to resume its old trading by pressing the paused icon.

One other thing that caught me out is don't expect the game to prompt you to do what ever it is missing. I think it was the last mission of the 2nd campaign and I had to get the two other factions onside. I had done 3 of the 4 things required and nothing at all happened. Probably played another 45 minutes while getting my navy all built up and working on my town but nothing happened. Eventually I took one of my ships and just ran it straight at the enemy base only for a mission to update as I got close and it suggested I could just run my sub in 'under' the enemy and scout the island to see what was happening. 30 seconds later and no shots fired and I had finished that campaign....

Yes BlackIce! All those things were confusing. I have persisted with playing though, and several hours more of play I eventually happened to be zoomed in and by chance saw an outlined figure so clicked on them and suddenly completed a mission.

I managed to figure out the trade routes - it took me a few more hours of gameplay with ineffective trading but I got it. The missions are currently the most confusing part now, because as you say, they don't prompt you a lot of the time, and some of them just don't make sense to me. I've had a few where they wanted me to do something specific, and that was fairly straightforward, but then some just wanted me to 'increase influence ' with someone, and at that stage I couldn't even see them on the map - I assumed they were underwater.

I am really enjoying it, despite feeling clueless fairly frequently. Its a pity the game doesn't come with helpful instructions like yours.

I attempted the Stockmarket crash live event quest on the weekend. It was hard because it forces you to use a specific faction, and I had not used that faction before. There are many differences between the way buildings work, population requirements, and available options.
It took me about 6-7 hours to win the Easy mission and I struggled all the way.

It taught me a few things though, that were confusing me in the campaign. I never understood why there was three different choices for buildings, then different number of people offering types of buildings, and overlaps between them.
Starting as a different faction and not having these new options just show up finally made the concept click for me, that each of those first three buttons are faction choices, with the different tiers of building requirements then showing up depending on which faction you have clicked on. All become available in a normal mission if you 'buy' them as you progress your islands and then you can build three different towns if you desire. In the campaign I was mixing and matching the housing types by accident. I had no idea that the casino would not help my eco employee's houses and they needed a library instead (or what ever the building was).
The problem was that they just gave me the options without any explination. A house is a house right?

After a mamoth effort to win the easy World Event challenge I gave the Medium match a try. My cash hit zero a few times and I was just about to give up when I realised my focus on the population centers and their needs had actually managed to pass the goal for the Engineer class of people needed. All I was missing was a small number of the basic population. I quickly told my buildings to not auto-upgrade. I just needed to sell a small amount of my goods to the other factions for some minor cash to put down some roads and build as many basic buildings as I could. Even though my economy was running at -800 income I managed a win at about the 4 hour mark.
A major improvement on my attempt on the Easy match.

Note that I am not going to attempt the Hard mission, but I am improving for sure. I should have no problems going back to finish off the rest of the campaign missions now.
