Ok, after reading reports here, trying the demo, I got hooked on this game. I never really played much of the original (I think at the time, I was either not keen on the UI/graphics, or found the complexity/lack of direction too frustrating). Admittedly I was young, so that had probably something to do with it.

Anyway, finding this game fun so far, although I am really early on (3 missions in). First playthrough is Normal mode (not set to Ironman) so that I can get used to the game and understand its mechanics better. Happy to say, I haven't lost anyone yet.

Just dropping in to say Classic Ironman is brutal. I'm still on my 2nd month and I've all but conceded Africa, and I'm down to all Rookies and loosing soldiers so fast I can barely afford to hire more. I foresee a failed game in my future.

I do love the challenge though. Some soldiers were lost due to dumb luck, some were lost due to me forgetting to buy/equip better armor when I'd unlocked it combined with forgetting what happens to something killed by a Chryssalid. Oh well, you learn from your mistakes right.

I am loving the game.
My best lol moment was while rescuing civilians. After you stop a troop beside them, they do a short run before disappearing as they have been rescued.

Well, this lady decided I was blocking the direction she wanted to run, so went 2 stories straight up a drainpipe, ran two squares along the roof, dropped down over the side to stand triumphantly beside my Assault troop who looks on in disbelief, before she runs off the edge of the screen to safety.

My jaw dropped. All I could say was, 'your hired'. I want her on my team, and why on earth did you feel you needed to wait for me to rescue you?

I just found a tech tree image which I originally posted but then realized it would contain spoilers for some folks.

So if you want to see it the latest version should be here:

You know you are on an easier difficulty (in this case Normal) when you accidently dash, read misclick, (without using Run and Gun) one of your Sgt Assault team members into a room with 2 sectoids and 2 floaters, no cover in sight for her, and she still survives the encounter (albeit due to the fact that her suit stabilised her).

Quick thinking from me to use a rocket to kill two of the 4 in the room (without hitting the team member thankfully) before they could attack and a few minutes later I am able to clean up the rest of the aliens before she bled out.

Ahh, good times...

Well, I've finally fixed my crashing issues. I'm now enjoying the game without a single crash (so happy). Playing normal Ironman and doing well so far. Just got my first Titan suit and the lads are running around with plasma/laser rifles. I've had one moment where I was dumped into the open at the start of the mission in full daylight, and was immediately under the pump (read little cover). Thought I was going to get through with two guys, but the Floaters got them. Lol, had another game where one guy finished off 4 mutons all by himself because the rest of his crew were dead. Legend!

So need need sleep....

Finished Normal with only 11 deaths in total (but almost 300 infirmary days).
It wasn't too bad. Classic difficulty is proving to be a challenge...

Tell me about it!

I keep restarting my Ironman games, probably because I'm a bit too OCD rather than because I am guaranteed a failure. One I forgot to deploy a satellite before months end, another I forgot to have active research, others I just didn't like the fact they had one Steam Vent in the lower right corner of the base (at least that was a short one).

The worst was wiping an entire squad on a Terror mission which for some reason I couldn't see the abort area on the map even when I tried to get the last two soldiers out.

My #1 problem is getting bored/frustrated and moving (dashing) someone in and triggering more aliens than I can handle at once. Other than that it's an all round challenge and am I'm loving it. I just need to keep my desire to rush the soldiers to their deaths.

I will say the panic thing is a bit annoying but I seem to recall it was like that in the original too. It will make that extra Will purchase from Officer Training School a must buy for sure!

Hey, that does sound a little OCD, but who am I to judge.

I guess with Classic mode and above you need to be much more careful with your time so that don't do anything accidently, as you might not recover from it.
