Default Tribes:Vengeance multiplayer demo

Not the same thing as the beta, beta won't work on demo servers. Maps are the sames, apart from that there have been bugfixes and tweaks.

Any togers interested? I like the fast-paced action, I'll probably buy the game even if it's just for quick pub sessions if we can't get a TOG team together (12 players likely size team).

Hav'in never played TRIBES before, I jumped at the chance to see if it's worth my money come release time.

IMO it's just another UT type game except you've got jump packs. Whilst this may differ for others slightly I couldnt see it. I played online for about 2 hours on CTF game type. I was very impressed with the weapons but found it lacking in graphics detail and playablity for the long run.
If your into TRIBES or Unreal Tournament then this is your cup of tea.

BTW Played with graphics set MAX for everything still pulled an average of 140fps on ATI x800pro(soft mod'd to XTpe).

Well, I just gave it a go for a couple of hours and I can't say that its grabbed me so far. Plain old capture the flag just isn't my cup of tea after UT2k4's onslaught. Hell I'd even take Far Cry's assault mode...

I'd agree with anz that it doesn't look breathtaking, but its more than servicable.

All in all, I'm not that excited in getting the full thing...

haven't played ut2004 except for about 1 hour of the demo, so I can't compare

Does UT have various customisable loadouts, deployables like portable inventory and gun turrets?
The T:V GUI is also very modable using scripts, and the voice comms system is very comprehensive (with a good team leader you could use voice comms only and not require teamspeak except for really complex stuff). The GUI should also have all the commands required or admining games, the t2 interface was, and still is, miles above the other games in that regard.

There is another game mode called "Fuel" (I think), where you have to fill your base's fuel tank by either emptying a neutral tank or stealing from the enemy's base. There may be other game modes but I haven't seen any yet

I guess if you've played T2 or T1 before you'll be in familiar territory, and come on, JET PACKS I want my jet packs When I go back to BF:V I wonder why I can't fly ...

Doesn't look like the response from the TOG community was very intense for this game. Although I do have my reservations I am sticking with this game, cuz I love it. Before forgetting this franchise entirely I would suggest a few things to everyone. First off if you don't know about the Tribes community an understatement would be dedicated. The amount of mods, scripts, maps, and skins that were created for T1 and T2 were immense. There is still much hope for the betterment of this game by the mod community, I am almost certain that there will be a mod that brings back many of the best elements from T2.

Tribes 2 was a strategist's game and a teamplay game. If both sides were experienced nothing short of team effort would get that flag score in. The real play left the pub servers over two years ago, all the fun went to TWL (Team Warfare Ladder), and BEML (Blood Eagle Mini League) with the clans. Second don't close the book on this game until you have checked out Starsiege 2845. Starsiege 2845 is a massive Mech mod with playable ground troops and vehicles. This will be a free add on released in 2005.

Lastly if you are interested in this game I am in a clan of nice friendly people who dub themselves -=AGB=-, and we would be happy to recieve any TOGgers either as members or if you are just interested in having others to play along with. The clan server for T:V is called "Unlucky 13" and we practice on Tues, Thurs, and Sunday at 9:30pm EST (-4hrs coordinated universal time). My Tribes name for both T:V and T2 is Trollden.

shipped in the US, lucky buggers. Oz in a week or so from what I gather.

There is a single player component, reviews:

For the MP just get the demo

I used to play in the Australian TWL ladder, was heaps of fun, I had some of the best games ever.
Relatively simple premises (though finding the right loadout can be complex ), but heaps of room for subtlety and tactics changes and role changes

An interesting comment I got from a lot of people while I was still playing UT2k4 is that much of its content is somewhat derivative of T2. I don't really agree with that so much, except that all these games have kind of a shared heritage, but they do have quite a bit in common.

Tribes movement is an art form in itself, and I suspect veterans will dance rings around inexperienced clods like me! The weapons are unique, the tactics are anything but ordinary and since I normally tweak graphics pretty hard, I didn't notice anything too shabby about them either! The netcode seemed fine in the beta, I'm sure it's even more solid in the release.

So yeah -- I'll probably grab a copy when it finally releases over here, though how much game time I devote to it I'm not sure just yet...
