Default Half Life Question

Hi All

This may seem a bit of a novice question but im good at them.

Im looking forward to all the latest games coming through from Steam after reading about them in the latest PC Gamer mag, especially Half Life 2.2 yet i am wondering since i have not played any part of HL is it best to start from the original or is HL2 a separate issue.

I ask as i dont want to miss out on any story and wish to see as much as possible.

Any insight appreciated

Thanks

As far as story goes you have to start with Half-life, if you don't you will have no idea what the characters are talking about, since some of them are in HL2.
and even tho it's old now it is still a hell of a game.

I've never played the original Half Life, but picked up HL2 when it released. I love the game, and have gotten well and truly involved in the story. Loved it!

However, the reason I never went back to th original HL, was it's age. Perhaps when you buy Half Life 2 (over Steam?) you could get Half Life : Source. It's the original game, but on the much newer, much prettier engine. Actually, I think I might do the same!

Start from the Start (well the start of the new ones anyway)
Half-life 2
Half-Life 2 episode 1

Then move on to episode 2
Otherwise you will be missing out big time
HL2 and episode one rock, make sure you play them first

I'd start from the original, then play opposing force
then go to HL2

i started from hl2 (tho i read about hl on wikipedia to fill in the missing backstory, since i'll probably never pick up the game) and went from there, was pretty good.

In truth, if u wanted full story u'd have to play
Half Life
HL: Blue shift
HL: Opposing force
HL2
HL2 Ep1

that way u get full story on all characters that appear in HL2 that were in the first game(s)
