Default Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 MP Demo Released

New at FileShack this afternoon is the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 multiplayer demo. The 1023mb download includes one map, and two game modes: Recon vs Assault & Team Deathmatch. The PC version of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, developed by GRIN independently from the console build of the game, will ship later this month.

Three posts for what I believe is the best FPS shooter this year, disgusting.

I have been waiting for this for a very long time since the dissapointment of the first GRAW last year.

I played the original Ghost Recon in 2001, I suppose it got me into competitive multilayer.

For those who like the purity of no vehicle FPS that is not a run and gun you are going to love it.
Server support is no problem for the full game but the Demo is not, although you can set up a Hamachi server no problem.

For those with good PC's you will love the outdoor graphics. Big improvement over the browned blurred graphics of the previous version.

Another good thing is that even with a 250ping very little leading if any is required on your shots. NetCode feels very smooth as well as very stable frame rate although I could not get Fraps to work with Vista on this game.

There are two modes of play in the demo, TDM and a very interesting Assault v Recon. It's a little like SD in COD but you have three targets to complete. This game play has huge potential and should offer some great competition.

For those that like a pure modern FPS I say try it, and then set up a Hamachi server if you have a good connection please

Great to hear!

I absolutely LOVED the original Ghost Recon, and played it to death! Poor system kept me away from the other titles, but will be getting this one pretty soon. Maybe the stocktake sales! Good to hear the great review of it!

Honestly, if it turns out that this game appeals to the fanbase of the original GR (my favorite tactical shooter of all time), I'd go out and finally buy a new graphics card solely for GRAW2.

I was an absolute GR1 nut. Had to uninstall it during my final year at University in fear of failing from neglecting my studies I was that hopelessly addicted!

Sadly, GRAW just hasn't lived up to it's namesake IMHO.

I tried really, really hard to like GRAW but there were just too many changes and needless additions that got under my skin. The GRAW2 demo wasn't any better. After a few hours playing the GRAW2 Demo I realised that the game designer(s) vision of what made GR a success wasn't the same as mine, and it never would be it they wanted to make the most they could out of the franchise. I was also heavily involved in the forums during the leadup to the GRAW release and saw first hand the attitude GRIN and the lead designer, which is largly "I know better then you guys, I've been in the army, I don't care if you want X, you'll get what your given and you better like it or I'll cry and run away", which he did once the demo was released (he got all shirty and said he'd never post on the community forums again). Yet, with a 16:10 widescreen monitor running the native 1680x1050 resolution in the GRAW2 demo I had at most a 60 degree FOV! I felt like a horse wearing blinkers. Everyone still looks orange. Everything still looks like a big brown blur, still no *real* AA support (the AA option just seems to blur the crap out of everything). Crappy "gamey" HB sensor tagging kiddy poo. Just... no... they killed it, so I shed a tear and moved on.

Thankfully, the HL2 mod Insurgency does what GR couldn't afford or dare do, and that's aim exclusively at fans of hardcore tactical/realism shooters. It employs a lot of the settings that I used to run on my GR server: No names, limited-to-zero spawns, no threat indicators, no HB sensor crap ect and it feels more like the original GR than either GRAW or GRAW2 does. It has a laundry list of bugs, but it's still in beta and under heavy development so most issues are easily overlooked. The pace is a little faster and the levels a little smaller, hopefully the level designers will start to open things up as, thought feedback from the beta, people realise that open areas create more interesting fields of battle.
