Default [HL2] Anybody else having Steam problems?

A friend at work and me have both got the same problem where Steam won't continue downloading the 6th (and final I hope!) part of the HL2 pre-cache. Mine's stuck on 69%, I press "Continue" and nothing happens. I've restarted Steam a dozen times, logged out forcefully from Steam and back in and STILL nothing!

Have you had a look on the steam forums, they might be able to help. Btw in the properties for HL2 is it set it to always update the game?

Have you checked the valve pressure on your steam intake pipe?
Could be an injuction blocking the works

Sorry KG, had to do it. Cant let a lame opportunity go to waste

Im not that far along so cant help you yet. Might be the number of downloaders for phase 6 or a glitch in the client updates.

"From steam":
Steam Update Released October 12, 2004, 7:08 pm · valve
An update to the Steam client has just been released. Steam will update itself automatically when you restart.
Servers will need to be restarted. ????????

So far so good here.

Hope you sort it out and its worth the dl, be a pity to have and go buy it in the end anyway if the lawyers stuff it up

I had a similar problem Knobgoblin.

Mine got stuck at 69% and nothing I did could restart it. In the end I had to blow away the Steam directory and preload from scratch...all peachy now.

CRAP! Ahwell... I could probably restart the process while I'm on holiday. Waste of my 24GB per month but if that's what needs to be done then so be it.

Gives me an opportunity to install it on my big HD, stupid software caches where you installed it, no option to cache elsewhere.

Some people got theirs going by a simple restart of the steam program.

Others went into their steamapps folder and deleted the half life 2 shared resources.gcf file, and were able to complete the pre-load that way.

Your mileage may vary, as with any program issues like this.

I believe it was a problem with the Internode content server(s). I've uninstalled Steam and reinstalled it to my other drive (just to be certain) and now I'm precaching again... this time I've connected to a Valve content server (number 9 if that is important to you)... and it's 13% done. Fingers crossed it doesn't hang at 69% again.

Alternatively, if you don't want to waste bandwidth, can you get someone to burn the .gcf files in the SteamApps folder onto DVD for you?

I've heard you can just copy them into this folder and hey-presto, pre-load complete. My SteamApps folder weighs in at 5.21Gb... 8O
